    1. We got more in depth with HTML and css style sheets today.  I usually use Dreamweaver for things like this, and they basically do everything for you, so today I learned what Dreamweaver really does behind the scenes

Sweet! I have always used Dreamweaver as well and I bet it gives you a much better grasp on it to see both sides of what it is really capable of and how it executes these commands.

    2. Mia’s presentation on Neural Laces was crazy

I had NO idea this was a thing, how have we not heard about this? Seems to me like this could also be technology hoarded by the super rich and powerful. I fear this could widen the gap of access that already exists.

    3. don’t understand how that can help make sure no one is shoplifting, but she explained that this is a new technology that is still being worked on.

I felt the same way, of all the presentations thus far I felt like this one left the most opportunity for explotation and people to take advantage. Especially in larger cities where 100 people could be shoping with this at the same time this could be one area that could stop it from being widley accepted.

    4. Last week, March 21st, I presented on aircraft drones.  I was very nervous to get in front of the class and present, but I’m happy it’s over.

You killed it! Your presentation was awesome and you really explored a unique avenue of your topic which is what I think Tim wants to see. Inspired me to do the same with mine!

    5. From mechanical hands, skulls, noses, to even eyes.

Pretty awesome stuff! The cost of this is encouraging, hopefully just kind of shows that regualar/everyday people will be able to afford access to this for medical needs.

    1. I also think segregation is the main selling factor that makes Apple products desired

That's what apple does better than anyone else, in my opnion. Apple has become the flag of the "haves" and the "have nots". Apple has really pushed the idea that if you want to be cutting edge and current, you need to own Apple products. I am the last person that can judge as I own a MacBook Air, Iphone 6S and Ipad...however I think it's a very interesting point that bares discussion.

    2. If 3D Printing is the concept used for applying skin graphs in the future

Super cool concept and like you I love seeing people use these technological inovations to improve people's quality of life and imporve the greater good. So often these innovations in technology push the boundaries of explotation and are used almost exclusively for monitary gain, really nice to see this is not.

    1. She mentioned Elon Musk, who is an important figure in today’s society. He’s one of the most brilliant men on the planet, funding self-driving cars, neural lace and space exploration. Not only are these three ideas on his radar, but I remember reading that he’s also presented funding for countries who don’t have electricity

Totally agree, if one of the brightest humans on earth is heavily educated and involved in this...it is important. I think if an inovator and business man like him can be at the forefront of something this importatnt it can help it from being exploited.

    1. we must ensure that disability is recognized and respected

I completely agree with the sentiment that not all literacies of user interfaces are created with disabilities in mind. It is so critical to make these formats accessible to all. Some of the most insightful, brilliant people I have met have quote unquote disabilities. It is important to provide open access to all learners.

    1. Rachel’s presentation on VPN technology was eye opening. I didn’t know these things existed. She advertised that when you travel out of the country, you are able to use the western internet through VPNs; usually when I travel out of the country, I don’t bring my computer, but it was good to know.

Pretty crazy, I feel super lucky to live in a place where I can jump on my laptop and get on facebook without having to use these sketchy VPN's. Emily and I were just talking about the "who owns me" portion, I think that is also pretty eye opening and that we as students and people in this day and age need to be informed about stuff like this.

    2. Emily’s presentation was interesting and relatable to everyone.  She did an amazing job and I was captivated the whole time.

I loved it as well, it gave me some creative ideas into how I can dial in my project as well. I hope Tim coordinates his attire with with my project too #straightflexin

    3. We spent time finishing up our 2nd concept expansion, and it looks great!

I love it! Thank you so much for walking us through Premier, I think several of us are now contemplating using it for our Long Form Projects. You da best.

    1. Tim mentioned ownership in class. I immediately thought about WordPress and Hypothes.is. I post comments and write my thoughts on these sites so at first I wondered who owns my writing?

This was very interresting to me as well, Tim provided perspective on this that I'd never reall thought of. I find it super interesting that we HAVE to use these sites to submit our work but then we are technically giving them access and ownership to our content without receiving anything in return. Great point!!

    2. I had a fun time with Premiere and am now considering incorporating it into my long form project.

After reading your long form proposal I think this could be a great tool to help you! Your topic and audience could really benefit from this and after Lizzy's excellent teaching skills the learning curve shouldn't be too steep.

    3. Ally mentioned in her presentation that “one nanometer is a million times smaller than the length of an ant”.  I wonder how nano-robots can be created to be so tiny?

I thought the same, the only aspect of her project that I wish she had further explained was the actual production of such a small, yet complex technology. Wouldn't this open the door for potential issues as well?

    1. As for my final project, I’ve worked on it a bit today and it’s coming along nicely. I’m about half done, so by the end of April I should be completely done. I’m not having any problems working with this, it’s just taking a lot of time because I’m writing about 4,000 words and taking a variety of pictures.

Glad the project is coming along nicely, mine too is time consuming. I think your topic as such that it requires a more in depth examination and outline but that will also add to the comprehensive nature of it. Can't wait to see it! Yes, I thought Lizzy did great and although we're struggling a bit with the remix I think it'll turn out well.

    1. After Lizzy let us mess around with Adobe for a while, it doesn’t seem too difficult. However, watching someone who’s experienced is different than doing it yourself.

It was much easier than I anticipated, the user interface was clean and user friendly. Lizzy even admitted that she had only been using it for a few months, I think that speaks to her skills for one...also how adobe has separated themselves as one of the best software platforms today.

    1. he nano-robotics presentation was interesting. If the nanobots allow cancer patients to have a greater chance of survival, why not use it?

I loved this aspect of nano-robots as well, I blogged about this specific application as well. I feel like this technology could offer much less downside than traditional measures like chemo.

    1. When I consume media, I understand the creator of that media wants to induce a feeling, and typically I will feel it, but while breaking down the video and podcast today, I realized how much more there is than meets the eye. I thought the alcoholic instagram was cool, and how the video highlighted the problem for those who didn’t realize.

I definitely agree, when we really stopped and considered all the factors that go into something seemingly as simple as creating a podcast it's eye opening. Makes me a little scared when I think about my own projects!

    2. Manton’s. I never knew applications such as ‘tor’ existed

TOR is awesome! (If used the right way), Manton did a great job. I was fairly familiar with it already and he shared 1-2 things I did not know.

    3. He was a great example to set, but it was intimidating for me because I dont know how im going to follow that

He came correct. It makes me feel a little better that Tim himself does not set any limitations or requirements to this in the way that other teachers would. I think as long as he can see that we put an honest effort in and kept it on track we should be okay!

    1. In class yesterday, it was hard for me to keep up. With everything we were trying to do, such as change background colors, change and download fonts/pics, etc.; along with having to write and keep up with my turn as the whitespace recorder, I was a bit overwhelmed. However, I did learn how to follow my own sets of rules, and ended up figuring it out by myself.

Yes, I felt the same way. Sometimes the class can move a little fast if it is just straight presentation like that. When I absorb things best is when we do it as a group and get to collaborate with each other.

    1. Still, hopefully there are more examples on Thursday. I would like to get a sense of what a good advocacy website looks like

Although we did not get much more clarification on this today I feel that after we do our proposals and get peer feedback we should be good to go. It has really helped to see people present...I agree that seeing them do it gives me a better idea of what is expected. Have a great weekend!!

    1. Being told what to do and when to do it is what school has instilled in us but writing that out and reading those words, it’s actually really ridiculous. The whole idea of being capable of thought, speech, and creativity but not using it because we assume we are not allowed to act outside of the box reminds me of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave

Totally agree, from an early age we are told where to sit, what to read, page requirements etc. For once we are given some freedom to operate freely/creatively and it kind of gives me some anxiety at first. However, the further the semester progresses the more comfortable I feel taking the wheel.

    1. even though mine turned out terrible!)

It was not any better than mine hah, if it makes you feel any better I can do some pretty dense programming with Java, Linux and Unix...but I was a little lost myself today. Photoshop is tool that you have to be familiar with to fully utilize, I was right there on the struggle bus with you.

    1. I like that we get to choose,

I agree completely, it so nice that Tim allows us some flexibility with learning paths and content. Very refreshing and original, I love that the power is in our hands to decide how and what we learn (in some cases).

    1. ooking back on my first post, I felt as if I was the only one struggling with this course but the class discussion has left me feeling like I am in the right place

You are not the only one struggling with some things right now, it gave me great encouragement that all students in this class are at different knowledge levels and have had different experiences. We can all help each other out!

    1. When Mr. Amidon discussed the topics we’d cover, such as video editing, photoshop, and HTML, I knew I was sitting in the right place

I am excited to learn more about photo editing and html also!

    1. What is needed now is a clear and compelling vision of the instructional prac-tices that can best support the development of these new competencies among all Americans.

I feel almost a standard for educators, students and the general public alike is necessary. If we can set a clear course and expectations it would be much easier to get everyone to at least a proficient level of literacy.
