    1. laissez-faire system

From dictionary.com the defintion of this is "the theory or system of government that upholds the autonomous character of the economic order, believing that government should intervene as little as possible in the direction of economic affairs". Basically meaning that in economics the government should have little to no involvement. The statement that comes after this is interesting to look at and how they used that to further show what they meant by the laissez-faire system. Basically they are saying that if you cannot take care of your business yourself then you should not be having that business.

    2. Thus far the agricultural 1aborer has been regarded by the political economists as a mere machine

This idea reminds me of what we talked about with industrialization last class. The idea that a person who works as a farmer or other agricultural worker can simply be placed with a machine is what started the whole era in the first place. It is also interesting to see how they put that it is the political economists that that of the workers in that manner. They are most likely only looking at the money involved and the speed of production instead of value of the product.

    1. The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities of all its citizens, and declares its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts

This part is showing what kind of characteristics the Irish Republic was going to create and keep for all of its citizens. They are showing them to be something to be proud of. At the end of the sentence when it says "which have divided a minority in the past" they are showing how they are rising above the inequality some nations had shown before them and that equality was something that they were proud of.

    2. her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom.

It is interesting how this document refers to Ireland as "her" throughout this first section. Here, it is trying to have the country of Ireland to be free as its own nation.
