    1. Providence was deserted, weirdly, not even a lot of bodies, maybe there was some kind of evacuation? I don't know.

this is surely giving me the walk dead vibes...why is there dead bodies laying around? And why is the area deserted with no one in sight?

    2. And so he's writing letters. Sideshow Bob is writing letters. In ketchup. MATI: And then he tastes the ketchup right before we go to a commercial - evily

never saw the actual episode but possibly this would be a foreshadowing since Sideshow Bob is writing letters in ketchup...maybe he's the culprit but I'll just keep on reading to find out...I love the storytelling aspect of this play so far because it's not a singular narrator, it's everyone joining in as if they're all having a conversation with one another. As an audience member I would love to see something like this live

    1. Chop it down? My dear, forgive me, but you understandnothing. If there’s one thing in the whole province that’sinteresting, even remarkable, it’s our cherry orchard.

I can understand as to why she wouldn't want the cherry blossom tree cut down because it's part of her family's lineage. This reminds me of a certain play, I believe it was called The Piano Lesson.

    2. Every day some new catastrophe befalls me. And I don’tcomplain, I’m used to it, I even smile.

he's smiling through the pain which I'm guessing that this is his way of dealing with these tough obstacles that are always in his way. This sorta reminds me of people who are always making jokes/laughing every single day, it's more of a coping mechanism to mask their pain. Not everyone is going to be happy go-lucky every single day of their lives, however it's the way you react to these troubles :/

    1. When the dance ends, Korean-American makes racist faces at the Koreans. She makes "Chinese eyes" at Korean 2, mimes eating rice at Korean 1, does a karate chop to the audience, and bows to Korean 3-all while making big buck teeth. The Koreans are offended

in such of ways I believe this is a clear example of how the Americans tend to make a mockery of Asians....there's a reason as to why the used the Korean-American instead of the other Koreans. Perhaps I'm looking too much into it but that's what I've noticed.

    2. The audience enters the theater and finds itself stuck behind the set, which is a quasi-Korean-Buddhist temple with a large, multipaneled Korean dragon mural painted on the back. There are rafters extending above the walls, suggesting the elements of an Asian-looking roof Colored paper lanterns hang from the ceiling to the rear and sides of the temple, and there is the sound of Asian flute music and trickling water

I love how descriptive the stage directions are and how they were able to incorporate the korean culture into the atmosphere of the stage such as the korean dragon mural and the colored paper lanterns that are hung up. I can see so far that this play is catering to the stereotypes of Asians such as their aesthetics...

    1. Offer me a cup of tea, and I'll tell your fortune for you. With palm reading thr in, it won't cost you a copper!

it's pretty interesting how they use fortune tellers as a way to take advantage of the people who are misfortunate. Giving the people some sort of hope that they will be able to come out of this terrible situation victorious and filled with abundance. Did some people turn a blind eye to this practice? Was religion ever involved ?

    2. Would you like a story to cheer you up, Of heroes and heroines, while you enjoy your cup?

this reminds me of the wannous play...I'm wondering as to what other connections there is between the two

    3. Writers engaged in the political and social events around them rather than confining themselves to their writing desks at home in hopes of "avoiding disaster," as had been the case in the old society, before 1949.6

The fact that some of the new generation of writers were brave enough to speak out for a political change during their censorship despite the backlash that might've came about or repercussions I should say is amazing and greatly appreciated . However it's no reason to bash the writers that lived during the old society for not speaking out as frequently because they were probably scared to because it was a different time where they've would've gotten killed for their political ideologies

    1. Damn being a man of Destiny! What good does it do in Africa? The springs of the African soul have run dry; our shores have been polluted by the torrent of the white man's money. A total defoliation afflicts our culture. Empty, empty are the granaries of honor that enabled the ancestors to stand firm.

i feel really bad for the people who are living in this community whereas their homeland is being swept up from right under them. They're losing themselves in the process because of the circumstances that have been causing them much grief.

    2. Four years. Four years. I've waited four long years in Dorothy Mela's shadow. Four years of champing at the bit. Four years on the pill to keep from getting big with all the dreams to which human nature is susceptible. Four years of vile consorting with the Devil. Yes, yes, ah, yes, I confess, confess to nightly orgies of pride, anger, and envy, which have all been my companions.

I wonder what's the relationship between Dorothy and Melissa? Were they best friends at one point? Why did they stop? They both speak negatively about one another so I wondering as to what happened

    1. SEYMOUR THAT TWERP OF A KLUTZ FINALLY DID SOMETHING RIGHT AUDREY TWO DRIVES 'EM NUTS WHAT A BLESSING THIS WONDERFUL PLANT SHOULD EXIST AND SHOULD RAKE IN THE BUCKS FOR ME HAND OVER FIST!

Mushnik finally giving Seymour that credit that he deserves for bringing his business back in order with the increased revenue, I'm excited to see the success of the shop since it's been dead for quite sometime, however at what length will Seymour go to keep up the success?I'll keep reading...

    2. "DOWNTOWN (SKID ROW)"

this song really speaks volume as in it really reflects to what is going on in the world today. Not just within the United States but in third world countries where people are looking for freedom and salvation. The beginning tone of this song went from hopelessness then towards the end optimism.

    1. That's a very immature, attention seeking thing to do. Did it give you relief

hmm... this is crazy... how is self harming attention-seeking? It's an obvious cry for help.. she's hurting inside...whoa the Dr. is getting me so angry right now.

    2. I am sad I feel that the future is hopeless and that things cannot improve I am bored and dissatisfied with everything

wow I wasn't expecting this so quickly in the beginning...but it sounds as if she suffers from a really bad case of depression. I know because at one point I was in the same position last year during the pandemic...I'm curious as to why she feels like this... trauma? breakup? death? the possibilities are endless... I guess I'll just keep reading on to find out why :/

    1. She won't deny it!

I could understand that Antinous was upset because he knows that Antigona could face major trouble being defiant to Creon, however I'm wondering if part of this fear has to do with the fact that she's a woman? would he still have the same reaction if it was a male?

    2. For whom? For those who wag their tails like dogs! Not for me! Do you see me, Creon? I will bury him, with these arms, with these hands! Polynices!

I've already known the story of Antigone but it definitely still amazes me how she fought for what she believed in despite the consequences that she was faced with. This totally relates to the article "mothers of disappeared" because it shows women fighting for justice for their families despite the dictatorship at hand that may try to get them killed for protesting their beliefs

    1. ut you are involveg in it! We are in this political turmoil

This political turmoil created war that has endangered the lives of many other families whereas the woman were afraid of their well-being and their children because they've had no means of helping them due to the fact that their husbands were imprisioned or either taken from them. I've taken this story that the storyteller was telling the customers for my own inspiration for my character creation. This is where the character Ashley Westfield comes from...obviously I tried to make it a more modern version but still being able to relate to this situation.

    2. Isn't it fair enough at least to forget our cares by listening / to a happy story?

I believe that the customers are coming to the cafe to hear the storyteller because it's a distraction from their everyday life. However, the storyteller is telling these "sad" stories instead the "happy" ones that the customers want because there's a valuable lesson to learn. I commend him for this because the world is not a nice place and it's best to void these mistakes if possible.

so far this sounds like Brechitian style for sure...

    1. Not in the least. And in your case, once equals never. G

the fact that Polly believes the sergeant would never find out that it's not really jip in the uniform is really telling...Does Jip has some sort of resemblance to Galy Gay? Or does he know that it's really him but he's going along with it to keep his secret?

    2. There are four of us. We still have fifteen bottles. So we must get hold of another twenty-five bottles

so was beer a coping mechanism for the soldiers in their time of war? The amount of beer consumption is very alarming considering the fact that the soldiers are on duty...and aren't satisfied with the amount they have now whereas they want more. :(

    1. Nothing; but you must learn ·what I thought you already knew. George, you cannot marry me; the laws forbid it! GEORGE. Forbid it? ZOE. There is a gulf between us, as wide as your love -as deep as my despair; but, oh, say you will pity me! That you will not throw me from you like a poisonous thing! GEORGE. Zoe, explain yourself-your language fills me with fear. ZOE. George, do you see that hand you hold? Look at these fingers; do you see the nails are of a ... bluish tinge? GEORGE. Yes, near the quick there is a faint blue mark. ZOE. Look in my eyes; is not the same color in the white? GEORGE. It is their beauty. ZOE. No! That -that is the dark, fatal mark of Cain. Of the blood that feeds my heart, one drop in eight is black -bright red as the rest may be, that one drop poisons all the rest; those seven bright drops give me love like yours -hope like yours -ambition like yours -passions hung from life like dewdrops on morning Howers; but the one black drop gives me despair, for I'm an unclean thing -I'm an octoroon

this reminds me of a modern day forbidden love story like Romeo and Juliet just with a twist...their love is forbidden because he cannot marry someone that has one-eight percent of black...it just shows how far behind the times were, whereas people of color weren't judged by their character but rather by the color of their skin. George seemed to overlook that because he fell in love with the context of her character and that's what won his heart overall.

    2. I'd marry you ifl could, but you know I can't, so just say what you want. I'll put back these Peytons in Terrebonne, and they shall know you done it; yes, they'll have you to thank for saving them from rui

      classic manipulation :(

    3. Curse these old families -a snooty lot of dried-up aristocracy. Just because my grandfather wasn't some broken-down Virginia emigre or a stingy old Creole, I ain't fit to sit down to the same meat with them. It makes my blood so hot I hear my heart hiss! And the presence of these Peytons keeps alive the accusation against me that I ruined them. If I'm ever to dear my name, I must sweep them from this section of the country

Jacob M'Closky seems as if he has a deep animosity against the Peyton family as for which he feels as though the family felt as if they were too good to even acknowledge him. Jacob M'Closky probably was a lower class than the other families in town. Maybe this is why he despises them so much...

    1. I know he wants m

maybe Bruce committed suicide because he wanted Roy but he knew he couldn't have him because 1. he's a minor so that's a boundary that should never be crossed or will be accepted in society. 2. Bruce secret was out that he was gay or people in the town knew of the affairs he was having with minors with that being said his reputation was ruined. I don't exactly know why he took his own life but I could see that he was fighting a losing battle with himself.

    2. It's like a l 950s lesbian pulp novel. "Their tawdry love could only flourish in the shadows."

From what I'm concluding Allison is well aware that her father and his student relationship is far beyond normalcy. Allison compares it to a lesbian novel whereas their forbidden love can only be kept a secret.

    3. All the characters who will make up this swry (i.e., Alison's memorie

From the very beginning, I could see the relationship dynamic between Allison and her father Bruce. It seems as though Allison lives in her past memories to compensate for when she had her father. She seems to cherish her younger years.

    1. It's saying 'Stab, stab!' It pierces me between the eyes like a knife

this sounds like a bit of a foreshadowing as to what's to come...he sounds as if he's contemplating something and he's torn between his emotions and his head. These malicious thoughts are eating him alive.

    1. here was no hope ofwinning you, of course, but you stood for how hopeless it was ever toescape from the class in which I was born.MISS JULIE. You’re a charming storyteller,

I felt as if Jean doesn't give himself enough credit, yes he is poor and he might not be high class but he is a genuine person with a loving heart and that might've persuaded Miss Julie more than anything because she doesn't care about a high value man. She's more interested in the content of their character.

    2. To my mind she’s no lady. Just now, dancing in the barn, she grabbed the gamekeeper away from Anna andmade him dance with her. We’d not behave like that; but that’s how itis when the gentry try to act common—they become common

It's crazy as to see how Jean doesn't see the "common'' as equal to the gentry. Yes they might have different tax brackets but it doesn't matter because we're all still human. The rich or in this case ''gentry'' eat. sleep, drink, dance..etc just like any other person so what makes them so special?

hmm... this was definitely a great way to raise awareness about social injustice within our society in which people usually shied away from these topics because it causes controversy due to conflicting ideas/opinions.
