    1. No athlete has embodied the soul of a city and the spirit of itspeople as Richard did in the 1940s and '50s in Montreal, my homefor the past 21 years.

Interesting comment to the impact of one person. Almost God like in this situation.

    2. There are moments when life gets in the way, when sports and thereal world collide at some intersection--

As a high school athlete versus not playing a sport now at the colegant level I understand this. There is a big impact that sports can have but when your two worlds come together it can get crazy.

    1. "We really want to see what everyone wants to say.… When you have a lot of people passionate about hockey, and not about religion, it's interesting to see people's reactions to the question," she said. "If they can make connections between religion and sport, it helps get people involved; there will be a lot of diversity."

I could see how you could tie these to things together. When people are such die hard fans it is like they are almost worshiping the sport itself.

    2. The arena is their temple, the players are their saviours, and those who worship them pray that the sacrifices made on the ice — of blood, sweat and tears — will lead them to glory.

This just shows the love of Hockey that the canadians have.

    1. Their teammates swarm about, clutching and shoving one another. Linesman Cliff Thompson grabs at Richard but he slips the official’s grip. Richard connects with an uppercut to Laycoe’s cheek.

Everyone was involved in this. The details to the fight are interesting. I like the way the author is describing it.

    2. This is their 14th and final meeting of the regular season, plenty of games to enflame the animosity between the two teams, but what’s about to happen is even more personal.

Interesting how many times the teams played each other. I could see how it could be more personal.

    1. Laycoe's story had Thompson trying to wrestle both of them and, in order to get at the Bruins player, Richard smacked the official.

Interesting conspiracy theory I would be interested in hearing another player's view.

    2. Sticks were high, fists flew, blood often smeared the ice, and the owners thought this was all manly and a great way to sell tickets.

Hockey is such a brutal sport it is almost like a fight within the game. I could see how tickets would sell will for this.

    1. In one of these compartments the father and mother had their bed; Maria and Alma Rose in the other. A steep stairway ascended from a corner to the loft where the boys slept in the summer-time; with the coming of winter they moved their bed down and enjoyed the warmth of the stove with the rest of the family.

Hearing about how small the home was is interesting. It sounds cozy yet like you have no personal space.

    2. Everyone drew his pipe from his pocket, and the pig's bladder filled with tobacco leaves cut by hand, and, after the hour and a half of restraint, began to smoke with evident satisfaction.

Interesting that smoking was as popular and social as it was. I also found it interesting how they described the bowl of the pipe as the pigs bladder. I have never heard it referenced to that. I also find the evolution of smoking interesting. They all drew a pipe. It is rare to see a man smoking a pipe in this time.

    1. Early in September, a reinforcement arrives, consisting of four additional missionaries, and a score of Frenchmen besides

There seems to be no end in sight. Both sides are unwilling to mend matters with eachother.

    2. his is a vivid and sympathetic account of the martyrdom of Brebeuf and Gabriel Lalemant, written by Christophe Regnaut, one of the donnés in the Huron mission.

The emotion that is drawn out in this is interesting. THey say that he has a vivid and sympathetic account of the matter.

    1. It is by his aid that we have already planted the Cross in the midst of this Barbarism, and are beginning and will continue, if it please him, to make known the name and marvelous works of him who by the Cross has redeemed the world.

They were too inclined in their own agenda. They did not care what others wanted they would marvel in the work of God and the Cross would help to redeem the world. It is clear the the Jesuit are just pushing their agenda.

    2. As usual, Brébeuf commences his annual letter by describing " the conversion, baptism, and happy death of some Hurons." During the year, the missionaries in that far-away field have baptized eighty-six savages,—an encouraging gain over the fourteen who were " rescued from the service of the devil " during the first year of their labors. Their great hope is in the conversion of the children, who, they report, show surprising aptitude and willingness to learn the doctrines of the Christian faith; and, through them, many parents have been reached.

The wording within this is precarious in today's perspective saying that they baptized savages hoping that they would become good christians.
