I hear phrases like this fairly often, which is somewhat surprising to me. I don't have much experience with social media (the closest apps I have are YouTube and Discord), but content uploaded to social media is generally uploaded by real people and often about real events. Even this example with Nate Silver only displays the fact that there is bias, ignorance, and loud minorities, which reflects real life pretty well. I think these problems are exacerbated by social media, but not caused by it.
