Bauer media group is such a large company that it is able to show case all their brands by categories/media platforms. This further emphasises the popularity of the company. The fact that bauer media group is so successful due to its large number of brands is a clear indicator to us that it generates a large revenue regularly.
Unlike the independent publisher stack, bauer media group is not able to add descriptions to each brand on this type of page, this is due to the fat that bauer media group have a lot more brands to deal with and their branding is so well known that it does not need a description.
THE UK’S MOST INFLUENTIAL MEDIA BRAND NETWORK
By calling themselves 'the UK's most influential media brand, the company is raising their own status. By saying that they are the most influential brand network is quite a big thing, which could be considered as almost being unbelievable.
Management Team
By introducing their whole management team rather than just the founder like mosts independent publishing sites, bauer media group is able to come across to its consumers as highly professional. Bauer media group is also giving consumers a subtle insight into its high budget as they are able to afford to pay a large team of managers and its '11,000 employees worldwide'.
over 25 million consumers
By featuring statistics such as 'over 25 million consumers' bauer media is able to make themselves seem highly powerful and prestigious. Unlike independent companies, conglomerates are able to show off these statistics and they will be believed to be highly truthful as they are so well known, whereas an independent publisher may present these statistics and many will feel that they aren't true as they aren't as well known.
Our magazine heritage stretches back to 1953 with the launch of Angling Times and the acquisition in 1956 of Motor Cycle News, both still iconic brands within our portfolio. More recently, Closer was launched in 2002 and Britain’s first weekly glossy, Grazia, was launched in 2005. Our Women’s Weekly magazines include Take A Break, which has long been the UK’s best-selling women’s weekly title, and TV Choice, the UK’s biggest selling magazine. In 2015, we created a new niche within the growing gardening market, with the launch of Modern Gardens, for an audience who want to enjoy their outdoor living space, without having to become expert gardeners. Digital Our digital business is harnessed under the Bauer Xcel umbrella, to leverage our scale and accelerate our digital ambitions, organically and through acquisition. Today we have 40 million unique users accessing Bauer brands globally and in the UK, we have over 100 websites and 50 digital editions of our print brands. In early 2104, we launched our first digital-only brand in the UK, The Debrief. Created for constantly connected 20-something females, The Debrief delivers totally relevant content at the right time, through the right channels. Radio The seeds of Bauer Media’s radio business were planted in1990 with the acquisition of London dance station KISS FM. Today we operate 81 commercial local, national and digital stations in the UK, including Absolute Radio, Magic, KISS and the Bauer City Network of 22 iconic local brands, situated in cities across the UK. Bauer Media UK has the biggest commercial digital radio audience, with over half of total Bauer Radio listening taking place via a digital device. In March 2016, Bauer Media began broadcasting six of its national radio stations on the UK’s second national DAB digital radio multiplex network, including two new launches; Mellow Magic and Magic Chilled. In May 2016, Bauer Media announced the acquisition of the market-leading Midlands-based commercial radio group, Orion Media, which incorporates the Free Radio and Gem radio brands, further strengthening the Bauer City Network across one of the UK’s fastest-growing regions. Bauer Media UK has also expanded its radio operation in to Europe, acquiring Nordic broadcaster SBS Radio in 2015. Reaching more than 10 million listeners weekly, through 20 highly demanded brands, SBS Radio is the leading commercial radio operator in Sweden and Denmark and is strongly positioned in Norway and Finland. And in February 2016, the KISS brand launched in Norway and Finland, with KISSTORY now also on-air in Norway. TV In 1996, we acquired digital music TV channel The Box, that has grown into Box Plus Network, a seven-channel joint venture TV business with Channel4. Reaching 16 million viewers per month and offering more music than any other TV network, Box Plus Network brands include 4Music, KISS, Magic, Boxhits and Kerrang!
By announcing their full company history, they are showing off all their successes over time. To brands enquiring in joining bauer media group, this is a highly persuasive way to draw them into joining the company as the prospective brands will see what they could achieve when becoming a part of bauer media group.
Today we are Britain’s biggest magazine publisher.
For an independent company, this would be quite a sweeping statement, although, for a conglomerate like bauer media group, this is completely believable due to their popularity.
1953
This is a clear indicator that this particular company has worked very hard to get to where it is today and due to the fact that it has carried on for so long signifies to us that they are very successful and have achieved lots.
11,000 employees worldwide.
In contrast to an independent's personal feel to a publishing site such as stack, in this case bauer media group have used '11,000 employees worldwide' in order to instead make the company feel a lot more commercialised and prestigious when in comparison to an independent publisher.
entertainment network
Bauer media group is described to be an 'entertainment network', this suggests that its companies go across all/ if not most media platforms ranging from TV-radio. Because of this, we are made aware of the possibility that they support a vast network of brands and therefore must be very successful.
in the UK
Our first indication that bauer media group is a conglomerate is due to the fact that it refers to the site as bauer media uk, which suggests that it is a global company and not an independently run one. An independent company tends to be in one specific place such s a publishing group based in London and for London, this is the complete opposite to bauer media.
An illustrated cabinet of curiosities→
On each featured magazine, there is a description telling the audience about each one, usually with a creative vibe to it such as: 'An illustrated cabinet of curiosities'. By using these sorts of descriptions the publishers are able to make the website feel more personal, which you don't get wth conglomerate publishers as there are too many brands to focus on.
Stack
This is the main page of stack magazine as it shows what the company has to offer. Although this has the same concept as the bauer media group website, they are very different things.
Just by looking at this page there is on clear indicator that stack is an independent publishing company, it is easy to see this due to the fact that all of their products can fit onto one page which suggests that they do not own a wide variety of brands like bauer media and only focus on a elect few magazines due to their small budget and lack of advertisers.
One other clear indicator that this publishing site is independent is just by looking at the front covers featured. All the magazines shown look as though they of quite a high quality and have a much more personal and specific aspect to them instead of a generalised range of magazines such as kerrang.
Meet the Stack magazines
We are made aware that this publishing company exclusively focuses on magazines right from the start. From this we are able to see straight away that this publishing company is independent as conglomerates will not only publish magazines, but will also publish products such as: radio stations, websites, and tv channels.
Design by Human After All.
When looking into who designed the website, i also found that the company is highly well known within brands such as Facebook and Bafta, this suggests to me that a vast majority of the magazine's profits go towards the website designers.
Stack starts from just £5.50 a month.
Although the publishers are calling their service cheap, when looking at what bauer media group charges for kerrang, which is just priced at £2.50 and is even cheaper for their subscription service, this is quite expensive.
However, this is most probably due to the fact that stack is an independent company that may not rely in the profits of advertisers, big name branding and a vast amount of readership. Therefore, the publishers need to mainly earn their profit in sales and will therefore charge more.
You'll love Stack because...
This particular publishing website is not well known enough and therefore has to persuade the audience to buy one of the magazines or subscribe to their service. Although, this could also be interpreted as a way of keeping the publishing company more personal as they do not have so many brands to deal with.
I started Stack because I think people want something better to read. There are piles of fantastic magazines out there just waiting to be discovered, and Stack makes it cheaper and easier than ever for people to find and enjoy them. Finding quality independent magazines can be difficult – most people don’t live near a great magazine shop, and there are so many options online that it’s easy to get lost amongst the pixels. Stack acts as a filter, selecting the best independent titles and supplying them at the best price via our subscription service and our weekly Sampler offers.
Unlike bauer media group, the stack website has a much more personal feel to it due an introduction from the founder being featured. This could be because the publishers do not have as many magazines/ brands to focus on and therefore they will have more time to make the publishers as a whole feel a lot more personal.
You can also tell from the picture of the founder, that the publishers are on quite a low budget. We are made aware of this due to the fact that the picture its taken in an ordinary background rather than a professional green screen which would require a much higher budget in order to be able to afford camera equipment, green screens and hair and makeup artists.
