    1. The third and fourth styles are generally grouped into a ‘tactile’ category where students are deemed better learners through active engagement with the material.

      I believe this concept of learning strategy/preference is what I was taught in learning at a young age. I wonder prior to reading the rest of this chapter if this is an actual strategy for language retention.

    1. You are able to use it effortlessly without thinking about its grammar patterns, for example.

      I hope we will get further into this topic specifically as the grammar rules of language are an area of difficulty for me personally. Procedural language knowledge to me has seemed so unattainable. Therefore, I want to dive deeper into looking at the learning through this lens

    1. Each time you get an answer right, you are rewarded with a *ding*. Whether you realize it or not, that ding (positive reinforcement/reward) makes your brain feel happy because it releases the hormone serotonin – the positive reinforcement for your correct response.

      I love this section as I was curious how certain language apps tap into psychology and classical conditioning. We talked about the classical conditioning in relation to animals who can communicate but this is a great explanation of how this works for humans

    1. He mentions different memory strategies for vocabulary learning as well as interacting with people to practice everyday phrases and gain cultural awareness.

      I loved this video as it delivers this exact message which i have personally wondered in my own French journey, Over the past year I have not had a place to engage in the language with peers which I think is incredibly beneficial. Tim reinforces the practice of combining technical content and converstaional learning.

      I love this quote and am simply highlighting it to write out for motivation later. This class is already inspiring me so much.

      Annotating this both because of the guidance that I personally think will greatly benefit my language learning but also to come back to for resources in the future.

    1. While polyglots seek guidance from instructors and formal settings like all of us, they mostly learn by themselves outside of the class.

      Super beneficial and confidence boosting for me as I am aspiring to become a polyglot and have had difficulties feeling like I do not have the resources sometimes to achieve my goals. This is what I hope to learn most about in this course as language learning is super important to me.

    1. Someone who has the ability to differentiate sounds may be able to learn tonal languages like Chinese or Vietnamese more quickly than those who struggle to discern sounds.

      This point reminds me of our discussion in class about whether or not a "gifted person" in language learning exists. This point seems to drive the answer no for me. I agree with that as language learning is a combined set of skills therefore no one can be "gifted" in it like maths or sciences.
