    1. A Christian, I say again, cannot fail of being a republican, for every precept of the Gospel inculcates those degrees of humility, self-denial, and brotherly kindness, which are directly opposed to the pride of monarchy and the pageantry of a court.

A good Christian is also a good republican because they share the same values unlike in a monarchy where they are prideful and showy. I interpret this to mean that Rush views the Monarchy in a negative light and thinks it's important to be humble and kind. I connect this with Context because this belief of what a good Christian/Republican should be and the behavior of the monarchs in Europe being viewed as sinful (because pride is a sin) helps understand the separation between the United States and Britain.

    2. While we inculcate these republican duties upon our pupil, we must not neglect, at the same time, to inspire him with republican principles.

It is important that we teach young men both republican duties and republican principles. I interpret this to mean that they consider these as different things with principles being things like individual liberty and limited government and republican duties being things like fighting in the military and civic responsibility. I relate this to Contingency because it's related to enlightenment but it's not directly related in cause because it's always been important for the citizens of a country to have the same values as the country does and to try and educate them in that manner.

    1. As they were the procuring cause of troops being sent hither, they must therefore be the remote and a blameable cause of all the disturbances and bloodshed that have taken place in consequence of that measure.

Because the Commissioner and Governor were the reason for the troops being sent to Boston they are responsible for the deaths and injuries during the Boston Massacre or any other conflict with the troops. I interpret this to be a reasonable claim placing the people in a position of power who were meant to protect them responsible for the harm that came to the city. I relate this to causality because had the troops not come to Boston this never would have happened.

    2. In passing to this station the soldiers pushed several persons with their bayonets, driving through the people in so rough a manner that it appeared they intended to create a disturbance.

The soldiers pushed through the crowd so roughly and with a bayonet that it seems they were intending to cause issues with the crowd and for the crowd to fight back. I interpret this to mean that the soldiers were attempting to start a fight so that they'd have cause for the Boston Massacre. I relate this to Causality because the points mentioned earlier in the source about the soldiers mistreatment of the people and the boxing incident directly led to the Boston Massacre.

    1. he present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land,

They view the Native Americans as heathens and they are at war with them currently. I interpret this to mean that even though Native American tribes practiced religion they did not recognize their religions and therefore called them heathens (someone who doesn't practice religion). This adds context to the territory source on colonies and how the puritans tried to make the Native Americans convert to their religion because they believed it was the only right religion. This provides early context for colonists making Native Americans convert to Christianity and making their languages and religions illegal.

    2. and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering Praise and thereby glorifying Him

They want to receive praise from God for offering a day of peace where pilgrims and natives can feast together. I interpret this to mean that they view God as kind and forgiven and therefore think he will favor them if they behave similarly even though they view them as heathens. This helps me understand how they interacted with the Native Americans and how they thought about God at the time and what interpretations they used. This provides changes over time with what we know celebrate Thanksgiving as and how it originally started.

    1. I washed thy face, but more defects I saw,

She tried to clean away what was wrong but it only revealed more flaws. I interpret to mean that she tried to ignore what was wrong but when she moved on from it more problems continued to arise. I'm not sure this line has a historical context since it's most likely about another person but it is a good line of poetry. I am using context to determine this is not directly related to another historical event due to the personal implications of it.

    2. I cast thee by as one unfit for light

She is saying he is unfit for being seen in the light. I interpret this as having a religious context since stepping into the light usually means finding faith and going to the light is in reference to heaven. The tertiary source on colonies talked about how puritans and Catholics didn't get along so this could be because of a religious difference between the people. The context of what was happening with puritans in New England helped me better understand what she could be talking about in this poem

    1. they say now they see these familiar spirits com to your bodily person, now what do you say to that

I observe that this quote is saying that there were witnesses to familiar spirits coming to the Nurse and that is a piece of evidence against her. I interpret this to most likely be either a metaphor or delusion since this is unlikely that they say ghosts come up to her

    2. How oft have you eat and drunk y’r own damaon

I observe that this quote is about how she feeds her demon by practicing witchcraft and by tempting others to practice as well. I interpret this to be related to the belief of selling your soul to the devil in return for things or about how strong at witch craft a person is believed to be

    3. Here are not only these but, here is the wife of Mr Tho: Putman who accuseth you by credible information & that both of tempting her to iniquity, & of greatly hurting her.

In this quote they focus on the men. Ann Putnam is called a wife and Kenny's testimony holds weight. I interpret this to show how at this time men were valued over women which was why the Salem witch trials targeted vulnerable women.

    4. If you have confess & give glory to God I pray God clear you if you be innocent

I observe here that the judge references God and God clearing her if she's innocent. This is a show of how the community was very religious at the time and believed that witches were working with the devil.
