A Christian, I say again, cannot fail of being a republican, for every precept of the Gospel inculcates those degrees of humility, self-denial, and brotherly kindness, which are directly opposed to the pride of monarchy and the pageantry of a court.
A good Christian is also a good republican because they share the same values unlike in a monarchy where they are prideful and showy. I interpret this to mean that Rush views the Monarchy in a negative light and thinks it's important to be humble and kind. I connect this with Context because this belief of what a good Christian/Republican should be and the behavior of the monarchs in Europe being viewed as sinful (because pride is a sin) helps understand the separation between the United States and Britain.
