    1. Hacker has typically been used to describe “illicit computer intruders” (Jordan & Taylor, 1998, p. 757), but more recently the word has been expanded beyond computer programming or networking buffs to any potential expert or enthusiast (Chance, 2005). Identifying hackers now is less about the domain of their expertise than about their motivation in using it. The term hacker ethic was popularized by Himanen (2001),

This was interesting to read. I know that hacker's are extremely common in todays society but I couldn't help but notice the reference dates within this paragraph. I did not know that hackers were a large issue back in 2001 and 2005. It was also interesting to see that researchers are more interested in finding out the "why" than the "how". It definitely makes more sense to me know when trying to understand the dangers within hackings.

    1. Educational technologies continue to develop to assist student learning and achievement, and the integration of AI is becoming more common.

While AI is assisting student learning and achievement, I feel like it may be detrimental to the social education of students as well. While school is a place to develop and advance a students academic ability, I believe it is also responsible for the development of students' social abilities as well. In my opinion, AI takes away a child's experience to learn how to communicate and socialize in public settings. I feel as though this has worsened further from COVID-19 as well. AI can be innovative and beneficial, but I feel it is also important to evaluate the setbacks it can create.

    1. One of the three UDL principles is Multiple Means of Representation - providing learners with more than one way to access and learn content. When you provide videos, podcasts, or images that present the text-based information in a multimodal format, you are giving the viewer a choice in deciding how to explore the information.

This is really interesting. When thinking about how people learn and their preferences when it comes to learning styles, I always thought of online learning as a category in its whole. I never thought about how there can be different learning styles within the online/media category.

    1. Alone Together is not Collaboration.

This makes me think about how COVID-19 has affected me in terms of working with others. I used to be a very social, could talk to anyone without hesitation, loved sharing my ideas kind of person. Now after COVID-19 moving a majority of my classes online, I get anxious when I have to work alongside others. I almost feel just nervous and awkward and I am unsure why. I wonder if this will be the case for a lot of students moving back into in person schooling.

    1. Technology is altering (rewiring) our brains. The tools we use define and shape our thinking.

This concept has always been really interesting to me. It's crazy talking to my parents about my schoolwork and learning and how different it was compared to when they were my age. Almost every component of learning changes with technology. How you can research, get help, complete assignments, turn things in is so different. My approach to learning and schoolwork is so much different than it was for them. It makes me wonder what learning is going to look like for my children, grandchildren, etc.

    1. With social media, such as blogs, social networking sites, discussion forum, image sharing services, and video sharing services, teachers are able to connect with other people and a variety of resources on an ongoing basis to improve their practice.

This reminds me of the expanding of your PLN that we talked about last semester!

    2. Lifelong learning implies that learning does not end when you leave a classroom or finish a degree.

This makes me think about the difference between schooling and teaching. Schooling is more structured, curriculum based, and directed. there is a certain time frame with schooling - it can control what, when and how you learn. Whereas lifelong learning allows for more freedom. It is a natural process that is growth oriented. It doesn't require any limitations or requirements.

    1. Kozma and Clark’s debate impacted other researchers as well. In an earlier article supporting Clark’s argument, Johnstone (1991) argued that teachers’ enthusiasm for new technologies for classroom demonstration (like ticker tapes and the Wilson Cloud Chamber) were partly to blame for why science is difficult for students to learn.

I feel as though this stems from the debate on how children learn best. Not all children succeed from the same methods of teaching. While it may be easier for teachers to use online tools in things like science education, it will leave those who work better with hands on practice left behind.

    1. Before you get started with exploring the chapter, watch the Evaluating the User Experience Powtoon animated video featured below for a brief overview of the chapter content.

Found this to be very helpful. Personally as a student, I know I do not learn best from reading long articles. Having access to videos and images helps me so much.

    2. However, it did not go as planned...The students had no idea how to use the tool. The tool had too many features that overwhelmed students rather than supporting their learning. Some of the students could not open the tool on their device or browser. Many students complained about how long it took to load the tool due to the slow school wifi. The students were frustrated and stressed and too much class time was wasted on figuring out the tool rather than using the tool for learning.

Felt this! I too as a student had a lot of trouble moving online when COVID-19 first hit. I was already less motivated to complete schoolwork, and having difficult technology definitely did not help.

    1. Clarifying the social aspect of your network is a great first step toward expanding your PLN.

I never really thought about getting in contact with people outside of your community, relationships or schools about topics. This information could be really beneficial to me as I hope to become a teacher. Now knowing this I can talk to other educators who may be facing a similar challenge in the classroom as me or other education majors as a student for help or advice.

    2. You can use the SIFT model of evaluating online information to quickly assess the veracity of a website or video (see the Check Please! Online course for more details about SIFT).

Is there a way to know if a website could potentially bug/hack your computer before you even click on it?
