    1. March immediately forges powerful visual and narrative connec-tions between the violent and difficult past of the movement and the pres-ent moment of Inauguration Day, in which Americans, as the newscaster on Lewis's television exclaims, "reaffirm our commitment to democracy by bear-ing witness to the peaceful transfer of power" (

This was another huge turning point in American history, especially reflecting back on how far our country has come from the past to present. Although there is still more to be done to end all racism, this shows how far the people of our country have come together as a whole.

    2. "Double D-Day"

This was a very emotional read. I found this interesting because I don't remember learning about this in school. In addition to numerous workshops and lectures, Lewis notes in Walking with the Wind that FOR "had published the wildly popular comic book-style pamphlet title Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story, which explained the basics of passive resistance and nonviolence as tools for desegregation.

I think the comic book style pamphlet was a good way to encourage young children and young adults to participate in the passive resistance and nonviolent ways during the desegregation period. Young children and young adults are more apt to read a comic style book that provides illustrations and text that is presented straight forward. It was very important to have that audience for the civil rights movement to be a success.
