    1. It plays with them, modifying, transgressing, andreinventing.

I think the idea that play in this way leads to so much unknown can be scary for some educators and at times leads to hesitancy to try it.

    2. Gaming literacy is also not about training professional gamedesigners, or even about the idea that anyone can be a gamedesigner.

Over the past three years I have had so many students tell me they want to be Youtubers or Video Game Designers that although this isn't a goal, I think it does lead to some buy in on the student's part. I understand this isn't something that is being pushed by participating though.

    3. based on game design

I appreciate this wording because I think many educators that go into this idea of using gamification think they have to use all elements, but as I read more and more about it there are so many options and ways you can use just parts of game techniques.

    1. an anti-dote to diversity, provided all students with basic knowledge of the tradi-tional canon of a common culture.

This way of teaching sounds dangerous in the fact that is would choose one culture and disregard cultures seen as lesser to create the "knowledge base" being refereed to. In some ways I think this happens too much already.

    2. neglect of logical organization.

While I do think that needs to be a balance and some organization to learning, I also think the term logical here is tricky. Logical to who?

    3. position students as passive recipients of knowledge and compliant objects of authority

Reading this, I just kept thinking no part of that sounds enjoyable, yet that is what we still have students participating in frequently. didactic= teacher-centered learning

    4. 1994

It is really standing out to me that since I was born in 1995 conversations around this topic have been going on for as long as I have been alive. I know that might be a unique experience that not all educators can relate to. I have worked with educators where I wonder if that time of growing up plays more of a significant role in our teaching styles than we originally realize.

    1. Annotate the Syllabus

This tool is so neat and definitely something I want to keep in mind. Just recently I was talking with another teacher about how it can be more challenging for students to work with the text when it is online and this tool could help bridge that so well! I think students would highly enjoy the collaborative piece as well.

    2. affordances and constraints of multiple modes

I love giving my students multiple ways to show their understanding so I am excited for even more options to present to my students.

    3. Gaming Literacy

I'm really excited to learn about this topic because gaming has never been something I've excelled at, but I am always looking for ways to understand it more so I can relate to my students' interests.

    4. Fan Fiction Digital Writing

I had some third graders this year that were VERY interested in this! It helped them stay engaged with writing, and I was amazed by what they were able to produce. I was learning on the fly though and am excited to learn more about how to integrate this into my teaching!
