what it’s actually like to work in one of these care homes or what these care homes are actually like in Japan.
I don't know a significant amount about care homes in Japan, however, in America they are a bit infamous for poor care. There are a host of reasons for why this occurs. This makes me wonder if Americans would opt for robots over humans.
-
specifically at humanoid robots in Japan, but how these, apparently, very technologically sophisticated devices actually end up reinforcing very gendered, ablest, and racialized stereotypes and traditional views of the family, harking back, nostalgically, to this golden-era of Japanese post-war, economic growth driven by industrial technologies.
Is there a way to address this issue in the robots without trashing them? Is this a training Ai issue? Either way, this must be addressed.
-
Then this new policy comes in from the Japanese government that creates more of a public system for eldercare,
I have always found it interesting that the government has a say/controls specifically how elders are treated in a family. In our western culture there is no specific requirement for how elders are cared for.

the government hopes that four in five care recipients accept having some support provided by robots by 2020.
How is it looking now? What impact did COVID have on this timeline?

If the cost of robot care is similar to an elders home, what would people choose?
-
Developers have focused their efforts on producing simple robotic devices that help frail residents get out of their bed and into a wheelchair, or that can ease senior citizens into bathtubs.
Would these have to be robots? They could be simple machines. It may even be easier for elders to accept that way.

contained the tiny spark of atomic energy that was a robot's life
They are holding the key to "life" for these robots. We have mentioned how people want to play God by controlling the world and robots. Thinking of holding the power to start a robot as its "life" can be dangerous, especially if robots are advancing to be like people in this story.

Now you're being unfair
Speedy turning on them has caused them to turn on each other. They are blaming each other due to the stress they are feeling. Instead, they should be planning how they are going to get out of this mess.
-
Are you serious? This is impossibl
They are coming to the realization that Speedy isn't following their command. It is difficult to fathom because Speedy shouldn't have the capabilities to ignore their commands.

Finished them all
Humans have become as disposable as the robots once were. Humans don't have any purpose for the robots though, so they can completely wipe out the human race like they desire.
-
But I don’t want them to kill you. What was the trouble, Radius? Radius. (Two steps toward her. Opens and closes fists) I won’t work for you. Put me into the stamping mill. Helena. Do you hate us? Why? Radius. You are not as strong as the Robots. You are not as skillful as the Robots. The Robots can do everything. You only give orders. You do nothing but talk. Helena. But someone must give orders.
Helena has grown to use the robots for their purpose and accepted what they are. She is even casually speaking about destroying a robot she is fond of. Radius, however, has grown to resent what Helena stands for and wants the freedom he was never given. The power the robots and humans have is starting to shift.
-
Defiance? I don’t know. Only rarely, from time to time.
This could be foreshadowing the robots gaining feelings later on. The robots that have been described thus far haven't gone beyond their programming. Defiance isn't in their programming. Even if defiance is happening rarely, it appears the robots are slowly evolving and gaining more emotion.

artificial people
This is the second time they have referred to the robots as "people." It stood out to me because it shows they are seen in place of a human. They may not have the same rights and autonomy, but they are talked about as though they are human. I believe this is due to the active role they have in this society.
