    1. "In other words, rhetorical moves can be a form of manipulation..." - I like the way this is worded, for me it made it easier to understand what a rhetorical essay is trying to do and how it may affect the readers along with trying to pinpoint these moves.

    2. "The art of persuasion" - I feel like this phrase sums up what rhetoric means and it also helps the readers understand a little bit before starting the reading. (I am sorry it is not letting me highlight)

    1. A writer needs to do all three kinds of revising and ideally in the orderwe've described them

The first thing is "what" next is "how" and then it's "errors" what are we trying to say how will it be interpreted fix your errors

    1. black-humored

      What does that mean?

    2. In fact, theonly way I can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first draft

This is a weird reference but this reminds me of Ed Sheron because once he said he has to completely finish a bad song in order to move on to a good song.

    3. 1

I like this whole paragraph because I feel like it doesn't give as high of an expectation. The author mentions that is hard for even real writers to get good first drafts makes them more humanized and it is easier to feel less judged.

    1. reading usually starts with text, and writing usuallystarts with purpose.

      IMPORTANT!!!

    2. "Photo" connects to "flower" and "lines in street,11

I feel like this is sort of without thinking so it is hard to say it is linked like I don't necessarily care about the lines on the street but they just so happen to be there.

    3. cycling through the other three aspects, asking questions andmaking connections among them, to see whether eventually a likelypurpose emerges

I like that the author is making it clear that although most people start a certain way it doesn't mean you have to or that if you do don't feel like you have to stick to it because you can always go back and change it.

    4. HOW DO YOU FIND OUT WHAT READERS WANT?

How do you know who would read your stuff? I do understand that certain people may read it more but what if it goes in a completely different direction?

    5. the writer of this articleattempts to gain the trust of readers by showing them how methodicalshe was in testing the recipe to ensure its quality.

I like that authors try to make an effort to engage with their readers without actually being able to do so. The effort of trying to gain their trust is needed and I feel as though it is appreciated by the readers.

    6. You have to persuade them. Inother words, you need to carefully analyze your audience and theircontext to create a text that makes change.

I know writing can be for yourself or people but when does this come into play? How do I know how I should write for my audience if I'm not too sure who my audience is?

    1. .

(This is after the one under this) I think freewriting is a good idea, although you have to keep writing it does take the pressure off of all the other rules involving righting.

    2. .

For whatever reason it isn't letting me highlight what I want to but the first paragraph gets you a little nervous almost like with the quick words and it makes you want to read it fast.

    3. Manu Kapur tells us thatour brains are actually wired for failure

That is crazy. At least from what I get it is like we will always fail which for the most part is true but for our brain to think that way is just very crazy to me.

    4. failure is not an option

I don't agree with this. Sometimes it is okay to fail that is how people learn and know how to move on to the next thing. Failure is inevitable to always think you won't fail isn't realistic.

    5. Goodwriters are not born. They are learned.

I sorta don't get this just because she was saying how people can have natural talent and then goes on to say you aren't born that way.

    6. they will know that good writers are not born but come to fruitionin the social act of writing itself.

I feel like good writing can be born but that doesn't mean just because you weren't born a good writer that you can't become one. This doesn't retain to this but the pressure that comes with writing I feel can go away if people are okay with people just expressing how they feel without so many restrictions.

    7. metacognition

what does metacognition mean? - awareness and understanding of one's thought processes.

    8. When struggling writ-ers consider writing a piece of art, they become frustrated becausethey cannot force their writing to look like what they expect art tobe, and they have no clue where to begin to make themselves thegenius writer they believe teachers, bosses, and readers expect.

I do agree with this because I do believe that when it comes to writing for classes there is a lot of pressure to do it right, and I also think it is up to professors and teachers to make it feel like less of a perfection competition and more of just being true to what you believe and writing to the best of your ability.

    9. SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST BORNGOOD WRITERS

I know it is just the title however, I do agree with this statement. For me, I had always struggled with my writing throughout the years and there were always people that just made it seem easy so I do feel like sometimes you just don't need all the practice in the world.
