andtheiradultlives.Likewise,thestoriesandmythsofourreligionsandnationalhistoriespreserveandpromotecertainvaluesovertime.That’sonereasoncivilizationsandtheirvaluescanpersistovercenturies.Thecraftoffuturism—howeverwellintentioned—almostalwayscomeswithanagenda.ForthosewhowerealreadyfamiliarwiththeInternet,thefirstissuesofWiredmagazineseemedglaringlyobviousintheirunderlyingpurposetomarrythevaluesofthenetwiththoseofthefreemarket.Themanyfuturistswhoemergedinthelate1990ssimplycouldn’thelpbutpredictfuturesinwhichthemostimportantspecialiststohavearoundwouldbe—youguessedit—futurists.
