Appeal to the people: also called stirring symbols fallacy; the communicator distracts the readers or listeners with symbols that are very meaningful to them, with strong associations or connotations.
Is for example when advertising a car they use famous people to persuade them that they too will feel very special if they drive that same car?. Like when advertising the Lincoln Car, they Matthew McConaughey people want to buy it because probably they want to be the next McConaughey.
rhetorical ploy
masquerades as an argument and it might make you think an argument has been given when none has. Evokes emotions using language or structure. ... Fallacy: Something within an argument which, by its flawed logic or reasoning, makes that argument invalid.
Ad hominem: attacking the person making an argument rather than the argument itself.
An example that was shown to us in class was, Donald Trump. He has a way of debating with other by attacking them with personal stuff that has nothing to so with the argument they are making. This type of stuff reminded when me and my mom are arguing about a fact that I claim is right but my mom argue it the opposite. When my mom pulls the bonus card on me, and I see that she actually might be right, I just get mad a scream nonsense about how her personal stuff that concludes why her fact is wrong and I am right.
Because writers who make strong claims need to map their claims relative to those of other people, it is important to know how to summarize effectively what those other people say
it reminded me about citation and I want to know if when you are giving for say a Tec Talk about Diana, Princess of wales and you are talking about her life and you did all the research about her, would you also mention where you got the information would it also count as plagiarism or only on writing?
In conclusion, then, as I suggested earlier, defenders of can’t have it both ways. Their assertion that is contradicted by their claim that .
I remember my reading and writing teacher to never say "In Conclusion" its tacky and not a good way to end your essay. It was hard not to finish an essay with out that word "conclusion"
Christina Nehring
is an award-winning essayist, literary critic and travel writer, known for her contrarian stances on issues as various as safe sex and book festivals.
It is generally best to summarize the ideas you’re responding to briefly, at the start of your text, and to delay detailed elaboration until later.
I think this is the best way to put it when writing an essay. It helps the reader to see if they are interest in the topics that we are about to talk about and if they want to keep going and read more about this topics then there will be more details on it.
The speaker was obviously both learned and impassioned, but as we listened to his talk we found ourselves somewhat puzzled: the argument—
This goes to show how important it is writing in a way that the people can seem interested in it. If we just speak facts about something that someone else wrote then its boring, we have to related the reader or audience for them to seem interest it in the topic. Advertisement is hard in a way because it hard to distract us from the fact that they are trying to sell us something.
In college writing, if you use a source in a paper, you’re expected to let the reader know exactly how to find that source as well. Providing this “source address” information for your sources is known as documenting your sources.
Only until now that I stared collage have I notice how bad not citing your research is. We had a whole class on how to get it and how bad it s if you don't site you writing. At the same time is good I mean it just shows that what we are saying is true and we didn't just invent our whole statement just to finish out final project one hour before it's due.
By combining search terms with certain words or symbols, you can control what the search engine looks for. If you put more than one term into a Google search box, the search engine will only give you sites that include both terms, since it uses the Boolean operator AND as the default for its search-es. If you put OR between two search terms, you’ll end up getting even more results, because Google will look for all websites containing either of the terms. Using a minus sign in front of a term eliminates things you’re not interested in.
There so much to learn in this world. I didn't know you could that obviously but it's a good idea since we get so many result in the internet. Google is now the main search website in the world. Of course they are going to have many things in there. Google may have a lot of result for what your looking for but some of them are fake article and are way to exaggerated. Some are just advertisement. It has it's good and it's bad.
It depends on the meaning you want to make, which is why it’s so important to figure out the purpose of your paper and who will read it.
So this is the answer to find the right sources for my paper. When deciding the purpose of my writing on who will read it's kind of hard to write for all type of people. Students, teachers. mother. Everybody. But i think this is a good way of thinking for that importance of finding good sources.
The late-maturing frontal lobe might seem like a good reason to postpone action, to wait until thirty after all to get started on a life. A recent newspaper article even suggested that maybe twentysomething brains ought to afford them special services of some kind. But dumbing down the twenties is hardly the way to go.
I don't think that twentysomethings have a late maturing just because of how the frontal lobe plays it's rule. I think mainly I think we will start out actuall life when we are thirty becaue in school they till us our timeline. They tell us that our twitnies is our school times and our adventures and the age of mutrens. The school tells us that we will start living our actual careers untl we are thirty so now we have that mind set that it's going to take us until then. The explanations is because we are still paying our school debt. We are just getting stared in life at age 28. I'm not just saying this because I need something to type out but I've had a teacher explain to me my timeline.
They control breathing, senses, emotions, sex, pleasure, sleep, hunger and thirst,
It's crazy to think that how our brains have such a huge role to play. It's like if think about a person who is vegetable, their bodies still function, they are still alive and breathing but the brain is dead. So basically that's it. Your body is just on the bed with blood still circulating through our bodies while are minds are not intact no more. It's only a body.
altered
change or cause to change in character or composition, typically in a comparatively small but significant way.
firm of surveyors
the technique, profession, art and science of determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional positions of points and the distances and angles between them
Our strong ties probably all watch Glenn Beck or Rachel Maddow or Stephen Colbert—or they decidedly do not. Whatever the particular sources of sameness, hanging out with them can limit who and what we know, how we talk, and ultimately how we think.
My mom always told me that success is knowing the right people. They will take you to where you need to be or show you a big lesson. Since I stared working at a salon, I've met a lot of amazing people. It's crazy to know what others have done and experience. Their opinions on a subject and the knowledge they have make you start to think about other options in life.
But while the urban tribe helps us survive, it does not help us thrive. The urban tribe may bring us soup when we are sick, but it is the people we hardly know—those who never make it into our tribe—who will swiftly and dramatically change our lives for the better.
I never found my "urban tribe" Maybe because I don't get stuck with the same thing for years. Meeting different people make me see other things that are out there. Once in a while its good to hang out with the group who have same interest in the music you listen or the movies and TV shows. Whatever the case may be, it can get boring in time with the same thing and just get stuck there in the same loop. I think this Urban tribes really are just for young people as there maturing their figuring out who they are.
dissertation
It's a long essay to write a particular, they are usually are required by a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
“I feel better now, but sometimes I just feel so vulnerable, like I’m not ready for the world yet. It’s weird.”
This shows the different side of Cardi. She always makes the world see her as there is nothing that can bring her down because of her bright personalty. Sometimes we need something to brings us down from all the hard wok and the speed we are doing in out daily life. I feel like this helped her to take a breather and calm down a little bit. We all have our moments.
braggadocious
I thought this word wasn't real because of how weird it looks, but it means praising yourself or speaking too proudly about your own achievements or importance.
“I’m not even going to call it surgery, I’m just going to say a ‘titty renovation,’ ”
This is to funny for me. I think what made her very special is how she can make anything look funny. Like most people who get plastic surgery are ashamed of it, but Cardi B has a way of embracing it. Making something bad to making it seem it ain't so bad.
“I believe that there is a law in the universe that all the work we do is in service to those we love and it’s always going to bring us better rewards and fortune.
I think about how people say " if you help another, you well get reward it even bigger" You can say this in many different ways. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of this saying. It's like saying or it really sounds like you are only doing good just to get something bigger in return. If you want to help from the bottom of your heart, you don't expect anything back.
But as a narrative it had the quality which the French call attention: it made you want to turn over the page to see what happens next.
It's easy for me to find a show that I really like that I can keep going to the next episode. I already know my type of interests in shows. But very rear I find books that I want to keep going. There was this one time that I read book that I had to finish it that same, I need it to know what was next. That felt cool. It's hard to find a good book to just keep on reading until you see how far time had gone because well to me, I think once I find show that I'm hoked and I was reading before, the TV is much easier, I don't have to really have to try to image anything. It's already there for me.
“We just sit here like Micawber waiting for things to come in,”
Micawber is one of the characters from the English writer Charles dickens. His character portraits optimism even if hi is in the worst situation ever. They describe them delusional. This is one of his speeches that sums him up in his character “Welcome poverty! Welcome misery, welcome houselessness, welcome hunger, rags, tempest, and beggary! Mutual confidence will sustain us to the end!”
patent
A government authority or license conferring a right or title for a set period, especially the right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention.
We are held back by anxiety around success.
This is also a very strong line for me. I bet most of us think of the things we can accomplish to be successful in life. I for one, always image myself what I should the next day or like see myself in my own business and and the steps to do to get there. I even write them down. But when all that dreaming comes the next day, i don't do it. Not because I'm lazy, but because I don't have that ambition I did a while ago because I'm afraid of failure. I make myself think that it's not because of failure but that I need passion (which can be true too). When really it's failure.
one might have a sense of shame/inner conviction of being bad which prevents one from taking the high ground ever, even when one deserves to.
I think this is a strong line for me. The reason for why I sometimes can't speak up to someone who is doing something wrong. Or when I'm hanging out with a group of friends and they are all making fun of each other and including me, I stay quite and let them go on because i know what i can say can hurt them. It always happens in work to. When the highest paying coworker does something wrong and i know it, i don't say anything just so i won't make her feel bad. Which she would probably not feel bad at all.
neuroses
a relatively mild mental illness that is not caused by organic disease, involving symptoms of stress (depression, anxiety, obsessive behavior, hypochondria) but not a radical loss of touch with reality.
And why is self-knowledge difficult to attain?
I feel that self knowledge is hard to attain because, we have a whole life in front us. Not until we all get into a sticky situation or any other types of situation do we know then how we react to stuff like that and how we solve it. I don't fully know who I am either, and that's what I'm figuring out now.
Then turn it all the way down and watch the frantic mice lunge at the glass, trying to get to you. Leave it down, and get back to your shitty first draft.
This one sentence, is the strong line for me. The main reason for this passage. It's letting us know that we all are usually the same when it comes to writing. We have the voices in our head that keep detracting us because there are telling us what they expect from us and this writing. We have to start form somewhere and let go of those voice and just start writing whatever comes up in your head. Make a shitty draft.
Suddenly, after much composting, you are in alignment with the stars or the moment or the dining-room chandelier above your head, and your body opens and speaks. Understanding this process cultivates patience and produces less anxiety.
I notice, and I'm not 100 percent sure, but I feel that the author Natalie Goldberg has come along way with knowing how to open up. To speak when you want to say something. Joining in the conversation that the others are talking about so you can feel part of it and not left out. But to know this things like she wrote"It takes a while for our experience to sift through our consciousness." We need to live in order to start to share those moments and feel good about it.
Maybe away from Paris I could write about Paris as in Paris I could write about Michigan.
This sentence I feel like its a true statement. I don't know what to write about it or i don't know how to explain it words what this makes me feel. But it makes sense. Not only until you've experience it and left that place for a while. You will see what that place has to offer and what made it so special for you.
. Poems to mothers make us feel little again.
I like this quote. Because no matter how older you are then other people, how more powerful you are then the other. Have gotten to the age of your mother. Being a mother or father yourself, when you write about your mom, you will always feel small again. That word mother is a child's word. We will always be young people beside our mother.
leaf-eyed Cherokee.
This is some images of what the Cherokee looked and dressed like. Leaf-eyed felt like it reference on there fashion. They had leaf as decor for them and there eyes painted.
autumn
Autumn is the third season of the weather. it is the transition from summer to winter. When the daylight becomes shorter. It starts on September 23 according to the internet. I feel that in Texas, winter, winter starts until January.
a name more like the real me,
I use to hate my name because i just didn't think it was pretty. Mainly because i dint't have a middle name. We don't get to choose our name. I felt Denisse wasn't for me. The name has grown on me, because its on every document and diploma that I have. I feel like we don't always like our name first because it doesn't hold something big yet. We have to make it to were when people hear you name, they are proud of how we done so much with our names. Maybe i will change my last name but just because its shorter. But then it wouldn't be me.
She was a horse woman too, born like me in the Chinese year of the horse–-which is supposed to be bad luck if you’re born female
The year for the horse symbol in Chinese is the years: 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026...and so on.
