    1. You are more important than the systems we serve. You are more important than my personal preferences. You are more important than the way the content is packaged.I am willing to learn about you to help you reach your life goals. You are important and I will honor you with instruction that holds you accountable and empowers you to take ownership of your own learning.

These are such important things to convey to students. It is important that we recognize them as individuals and show them that we care about who they are and who they want to be. A student that knows his teacher cares is more willing to put their best foot forward.

    1. inecraft players have to learn how to create and assemble the building blocks — like digital Legos. Players can learn creative skills, too. For example, they can design how characters look by creating custom “skins.”

It's great how a game that so many kids play so often is also teaching them important skills in multiple content areas. Minecraft is a great tool for creating and also can further learning in math and other areas.

    1. Part of the work of inclusion is, first, being attentive to where designs in higher education marginalize students

Yes! There are so many things that can make students feel excluded in the classroom that we as teachers may not even realize. We must try to recognize these and do our best to counteract them.

    1. To really make a difference, the new tool needs to go beyond,

This is a really good point that I hadn't really thought about. Sure technology is great but sometimes we could be doing the same lessons or activities without the screens. That's why I really like the emphasis on the fact that the tool should be bringing something new or improved to the table rather than just an online version of something we already have access to.

    1. Giving students the opportunity to engage in higher order thinking activities helps develop their capacity as citizens and professionals who can make informed decisions, create new knowledge and ideas, and justify their opinions.

How do we ensure that we as teachers are giving our students opportunities to engage in higher order thinking? It seems like posing a problem and having students create solutions is a solid way, but what else?

    2. That is, learners are not blank slates that absorb information from the external world. Nor are they simply processing objective information within their own minds. Rather, they “build personal interpretations of the world based on individual experiences and interactions”

Love this view point. This is a huge reason why everyone learns things differently. Different experiences and interactions give different views on the world and certain subjects. Learning builds upon those experiences.

    1. However, what you may not realize is that the geolocation data collected about you is often shared or sold to other companies.

Such a scary and strange thing to think about that our locations are being sold. We click yes when an app asks us to use our location without even hesitating and knowing what that entails.

    2. While some disabilities may be visible to people (e.g., using a wheelchair), other disabilities may not (e.g., hearing loss or dyslexia)

I find this super important because when most people hear the word disability, they think that they will be able to notice someone with one if they see them. This is entirely not the case as there are so many disabilities that cannot be seen from the outside. It is an important thing to think about when designing a learning tool. That tool should be able to accommodate every type of learner.

    1. Ideally, an e-learning tool enhances or transforms learning.

I like this statement. This captures the whole point of why we are trying to incorporate e-tools into teaching and learning. The goal is to enhance the learning experience for everyone involved.

    2. Offline Access.

Is this common? I feel like most e-tools don't have this function. It may not be a feature that most of us would need frequently, but this could be helpful to some people with limited internet access. Also, it could be useful when internet inevitably goes down every once in a while.

    1. When searching for digital tools, you can turn to your PLN for recommendations of new tools to try, examples of how a specific app can be used in a classroom setting, advice for how to use digital tools to address classroom challenges or meet instructional goals, and assistance for figuring out how to find and evaluate digital tools and apps for teaching and learning.

This can be extremely helpful for those instructors who want to incorporate more useful technology and applications in their classroom but are not sure what to use or how. This also helps teachers to make decisions on what applications and online tools are helpful to students and themselves.
