    1. Although the results are inconclusive, select data appearto indicate that the use of alcohol to cope with profes-sional stress may be an increasing problem in nursing. When nurses use substances, there are professionalpractice and life outcomes that result. We divided theseinto negative and positive outcomes. Significant negativeoutcomes from the use of substances included the nurseelecting to leave the organization prior to terminationwith no referral for assistance. This often occurred whenthe nurse was confronted with suspected use andrequested to submit to a urine drug screen. Other nurseswere terminated after the SU was discovered; this couldinclude impairment while on duty or diversion activities. There were select nurses who had enrolled in ISNAP.However, some nurses were unsuccessful with monitor-ing agreements and began to use substances again. Othernurses were arrested, lost custody of children, divorced, and were incarcerated.

This section of the text is to respond to the question, "What are the results of the research study?" It explains that the overall results of the study are inconclusive based on the vast difference in the responses. Nurses gave testimonies of their own substance abuse history, history of SU in their families, the struggle of the nursing profession, stories of sobriety and denying use, and responses of witnessing others use. Nurses faced many different outcomes from their choices and it was also telling that some of that used and others never found out. Earlier in the article it talked about how some of the results could have been skewed. Some people may have lied, or tried to just respond multiple times to recieve the gift card. The results could be inconclusive due to the varying responses and chance of inaccuracy in the responses given.
