Why should you never scare your cat with a cucumber (or anything else)?
Unfortunately, scaring your cat can have harmful effects on the cat. The cats could develop cat anxiety and develop distrust towards humans and their owners.
-
combination of the two
According to this article, it is a combination of the two reasons above why cats are scare of cucumbers.
-
it ‘managed’ to sneak behind them
Another reason why cats are surprised by the cucumbers. They pay close attention to their environments. If they owners put something down or something changed while they aren't looking, they will scare the cats. It doesn't have to be a cucumber but anything.
-
their fear response and make them jump a few feet in the air to avoid being bitten.
Cats jump high in the air when they are scare because it is their fear response. They do this to avoid being bitten and they can get away faster.
-
normally explained by the natural fear cats have towards snakes.
One reason why cats are afraid of cucumbers. They may think it looks like a snake. Not all cats are afraid of snakes. They may think snakes are prey. So this is just a possibility.
-
cats are more careful and pay more attention to changes in their environment than some pack-animals.
They pay more attention to their environment because they tend to be "independent creatures" causing them to have jump scares.

Think of homework as a mental gym; each assignment is a new exercise, pushing you to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information in ways that strengthen your critical thinking skills.
I think is a great comparison. I never thought of it like that. I know I have stayed up late working on homework.
-
Teachers can offer flexible deadlines,
I agree with this especially in grades that are just starting handing out homework.
-
Impact on Mental Health
I agree that homework has an impact on mental health. It can cause stress and anxiety in students.
-
Time Management Skills
Teachers should spend some time talking about time management skills. If teachers give students time to get their work done, they should be able too. If not, I would say it is homework because they didn't use their time well even. In the future, time management will be important as the amount of work students get will increase.
-
It’s also about living a well-rounded college life
I agree. Homework is important but we also have to live our life. Homework can wait. I would rather create fun memories instead of only remember doing homework.

Recommendations for instituting free school meals
These are great recommendations but what if the school district doesn't have access to the recommendations or the money to do so?
-
ability to choose
The elementary school I work in has started offer another choice at lunch which has cut back on how much is being waste and the kiddos are actually eating their lunches. I think choices are a great option!
-
Short lunch periods
This is a problem in my school too.
-
leave open-ended feedback
I think this is a great idea for students and parents.
-
abor shortages, supply chain disruptions, and rising food and equipment costs.
That is one of problems right now and that be the cause of the less healthier options.
-
The lack of cultural diversity in food options came up throughout the conversations with both students and adults.
I agree that it would be neat to have a diversity of food options but I don't think it would go over good in the elementary school setting.
-
Fridays are usually the fun food that people do want to eat, and then we’re left with [the sunbutter sandwich].
The school I work in does a great job of providing a good meatless meal on Fridays that the kiddos who don't do meat less Fridays will still eat too.
-
some students refuse to eat.
I get that some students have to have certain foods and where I work the school does offer them food that they can eat. I don't think schools can carter to every student if it's not for a medical reason. That would cause stress on the workers.
-
Students described feeling tired of the two-week menu rotation,
I do think that students would rather have a variety of food options.
-
show students that educators care about what happens to them, inside and outside the classroom.
That is a great view point! I never thought about it that way.
-
incentivizing them to eat the school-provided food that often has more nutritious value than “away-from-school” food.
Is school lunch really more nutritious then home lunch
-
If education is compulsory, then meals should be provided. One parent said, “If they are required to be there, they deserve to be fed while they’re there.”
I agree with this statement.
-
It is “one less thing for the kids to worry about,” said one parent, and food service staff felt the same way. The burden of process—such as tracking down parents to sign forms, forcing students to put in a number when buying lunch, or navigating how to publicly address students’ meal debt—can be avoided through the no-cost meal plan.
I agree that it would be one less thing to worry about. I have worked in both the school and lunch room. I have seen both sides and I could see the stress in both the kids and workers.
-
including students, educators, administrators, parents, and food service staff—about the meals’ impacts on their daily lives.
I liked how they asked everyone who would be involved in school lunch about how school lunches effect them.
-
child hunger and food insecurity negatively affect students’ concentration and academic performance, as well as increase behavioral issues.
I believe that is does effect students' learning. I know when I hungry, that is all that I think about. What ways have you seen hunger effect the students' performance?
