    1. We only ask an even chance to live as other men live. We ask to be recognized as men. We ask that the same law shall work alike on all men. If an Indian breaks the law, punish him by the law. If a white man breaks the law, punish him also.

I think this is such a powerful quote, not just for the Indian race, but for all of the other races and religions that are looked down on. I believe that this paragraph is showing that all men are more alive then they think, he's just trying to get them to understand.

    2. I have heard talk and talk but nothing is done. Good words do not last long unless they amount to something.

This is showing how hard they have been fighting. All the promises that were made to keep their spirits up. Even with the word of the Americans they still cannot come to a conclusion of peace. They kept their word but the same was not done for them.

    3. I am tired of fighting. Our chiefs are killed.

This shows that they are not in favor of running anymore. They would rather surrender themselves, rather then lose more men. The more they fight the more they lose hope. He is scared for their future generations and what problems they will endure.

    1. Do you think that there is intelligence enough among the slaves of the South to maintain themselves under the Government of the United States and the equal protection of its laws, and maintain good and peaceable relations among yourselves and with your neighbors?

I believe that this question should have been asked to the "whites" instead. As we know in history, men and woman were not kind to their colored neighbors. I believe there was enough intelligence within the colored community to behold the peace and obey the laws. I do not believe that their neighbors, could hold themselves to the same standard that was being held for the colored community.

    2. If the Rebel leaders were to arm the slaves, what would be its effect?

I think that it would backfire. The colored men and woman they once controlled would now have the freedom to fight for themselves and try to escape. I think this would lead to a lot of violence, and they wouldn't fight for the reason they were intended to. I believe former slaves would create their own "military" and try to fight back.

    3. State what you understand by Slavery and the freedom that was to be given by the President’s proclamation.

After being freed from the slaves owners, slaves no longer had to work days in the fields, doing manual labor that didn't benefit them etc. After the proclamation they were allowed to be their own person, for example, get a job, join the military.
