      This reminds me of a marketing class that I took at Georgia Tech last semester. We measured the success of specific ads based on increased visibility and ultimately revenue for the company. However, we never focused on the negative effects that certain ads and repeated messages could have on society as a whole. Could certain messages broadcasted by tech. companies create an underlying, subliminal message that negatively affects society?

      This raises the question of whether the US government policies towards technology are too flexible. I think the fact that a lot of the government officials know less about specific technology than the executives at Apple or Google (examples), raises a question about who should monitor these companies and the technology that they are allowed to release to the public? Because ultimately, advances in technology affect society as a whole as we all adapt for the future.

      This reiterates the point that technology can change society as a whole. Technology is not just about the platform or specific device but how society uses that tool and adapts to it. That is what can make technology dangerous- the way that it is used.
