this is interesting to think about because I never thought of it this way but I think this is inherently true. Last semester, I took a Gallatin IDSEM with Prof. Marie Soto who titled the course "Feminism, Imperialism, and Decolonization" and this was the first time I saw feminism and decolonization sharing a sentence.

I am not sure this is how it works. The customer has the ability to adjust preferences from personality traits, how much sweat/warmth the robot would produce, and at the end of the day, how often the customer wants to use the robot. That doesn't sound like consent will be stimulated.

something I don't quite understand is why is McMullen determined to include features that try to help the customer remember they are interacting with a robot (like keeping their facial features more robotic than human-like) but think that including such features like sweating, warmth, and even talking won't convince a customer they are experiencing something human-like? What I mean is that simply keeping 1 factor "not-as-human" isn't going to prevent convincing a customer to remember they are pleasuring themselves with a robot. If anything, keeping robotic facial features may end up changing their perception of beauty but not necessarily remind them they are enjoying pleasure with a robot

if I am being truly honest, as a cisgender straight woman, I have had intimate instances with cisgender straight men who have NEVER asked or seemed to care how I was feeling between an intimate instance. I find it almost insulting that someone would want to ask if a robot is enjoying themselves over asking a real life human being.

A part of me is disturbed by the language used. The number of hours put into the degree and to develop one's engineering skills has been to "create a genuine bond between man and machine." I may be coming from a very judgemental standpoint, but I cannot believe 4 years of a Bachelors or countless of hours to the equivalent for the engineering skills has been for this "connection/bond" between humans and machines. The other part of me is also just genuinely curious. Do people really believe that humans can one day replicate/develop that can replace humans? Is something like a genuine bond able to be created? Or will it continue to be an illusion?

this is so ironic for me. I've been exposed to AI as a mechanism for the world to use technology so we can make our lives a bit easier to deal with the abundant amount of data we have. AI has always been presented to me as something that was going to almost "save us" and bring up to a "bigger brighter future." But seeing that is it now used to create sex dolls, I have suspicions about what else AI is being used for.

this brings me back memories of my childhood education. Having a "foreign" name read by all my Caucasian teachers growing up left me feeling alienated and never enough. The mirror replicated the standard reminds me of how Eurocentric our standard of meritocracy is in the US and how anything that doesn't come to par is dismissed as unworthy. Immigrants and non-Caucasian Americans have always felt exiled, even when they put effort to to adopt more Western culture in their lives. The most perfect example is adopting a "American" name, a name with pronunciation that is easy for native English speakers to remember and say and a name that comes with familiarity and comfort. The effort that non-Caucasian / immigrants have made to achieve the heavily advertised American Dream is nothing but years of alienation and distrust.

I always wonder what a healthy level of competition looks like. If this is the beginning of the journey of something that is supposed to be strenuous, I'd imagine a certain level of competition can serve as motivation but I wonder what that looks like in this fantasy world as mirrors speak back
