    1. for example, wearing fur as the only piece of clothing against a blistering wintery atmosphere)

This reminds me of one of your earlier points that included a picture of a serval and a woman wearing a coat. You drew a really nice connection between them both wearing/ having fur Obviously winter is the season one most commonly sees people wearing furs, out of both necessity and style. That consistent motif I think adds to the idea of becoming animal as they are literally wrapping themselves in it.

The main difference was that the servals did not appear in any photos with the child, clearly two separate domains despite the woman being a 'mother' to both of them. In addition, it was clear when the woman had added another serval to her family as she showed the two cats playing amongst one another, but not with the child. Usually, the videos that seem to go viral on the Internet show some sort of interaction between human and animal, and especially between child and animal. Animals often appear in picture books and are characterized to be the perfect companion piece for the child - the two can simultaneously grow up with one another. However, this is not the case for the big cat and the child, as the serval at any moment could turn on the child and harm it. Therefore, it reinforces the notion that although we see the serval being trusting towards its owner / other adults, through a subliminal message like keeping serval and child apart, it highlights that these two domains cannot intersect with one another. Of course, being a content creator on Instagram, one has to be able to consistently post about their life so it comes to no surprise why the owner of the account would take no chances between her serval and child.

I kind of wish you had mentioned something about the way she is dressed. You've talked already about the performance aspect of social media, and here feels like a really nice example. We can see that she is posed and dressed and done up to a t in a way that can be read very sexually (lace trim, short garments etc...). It is as much about showing off the owner as it is the creature.

    2. any photos with the child, clearly two separate domains despite the woman being a 'mother' to both of them.

Excellent point. How our whole idea of parentage is transposed onto nonhuman entities (ex: the whole furparent/furbaby dynamic). It brings in a whole lot about lineage, familial relations existing outside biology that connect human and nonhuman beings. Here there feels like the serval's wildness is still taken into consideration since the spheres of mother to child vs mother to animal are kept separated.

    1. They do not necessarily need to be posing for a specific audience anymore.

I'm not sure if I 100% agree with this. I understand in relation to paintings being made for a family or a singular buyer, but I feel like social media platforms act as a complete/ somewhat specific audience. Yes you may not know exactly who will see what you post, but in some ways you can control who does. You can cater and curate what you post to specific viewer ships.

    2. "Men look at women. Women watch themselves being looked at"

I think this is a wonderfully chosen quote, not just because of well it ties into the gendered part of the content, but how it also relates to the ideas of zoos and animal watching. Social media already feels incredibly performative and just acts as a platform to watch and be watched. Great tie-in as well with the paintings, as old as they are so much still feels relevant.
