    1. Now the day is over,Night is drawing nigh-igh,Shadows--(coughing, then almost inaudible)--of the eveningSteal across the sky.

I think this was a beautiful description by the author/writer. I like how the author beautifies the ending of the day and beautifies the calmness and serenity of the night falling, after a tiring and restless day. I love how the author also mentioned shadows of the evening, conveying how the day is slowly turning into a beautiful and calming night, slowly. It's almost like the author is romanticizing night and the peace it brings with it.

    2. Krapp remains a moment motionless, heaves a great sigh, looks at his watch, fumbles inhis pockets, takes out an evelope, puts it back, fumbles, takes out a small bunch of keys, raises it to his eyes, chooses a key, gets up and moves to front of table. He stoops, unlocks first drawer, peers into it, feels about inside it, takes out a reel of tape, peers atit, puts it back, locks drawer, unlocks second drawer peers into it, feels about inside it,takes out a large banana, peers at it, locks drawer, puts keys back in his pocket. Heturns, advances to edge of stage, halts, strokes banana, peels it, drops skin at his feet, puts end of banana in his mouth and remains motionless, staring vacuously before him. Finally he bites off the end, turns aside and begins pacing to and fro at edge of stage, inthe light, i.e. not more than four or five paces either way, meditatively eating banana. He treads on skin, slips, nearly falls, recovers himself, stoops and peers at skin and

I love how the author describes all the actions that the character named, Krapp is doing moment by moment. I also wonder if Krapp has anxiety because he can't stop fidgeting and moving. It is almost like he's anxious/worried about something and his actions clearly says that he is having a nervous/jittery reaction. His restlessness and constant need of moving is very interesting to me and I love how the author captures it in simple sentences. Almost like fragments.

I love how it sounds like a journal entry. I love the fact that the author writes down all the factors that makes her depression and full of despair, and how everything really makes her feel. I love how raw and brutally-honest she described all the aspects that adds on to her sadness. For example, "I can't make decisions, I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't think, I cannot overcome my loneliness, my fear, my disgust, I am fat, I cannot write, I cannot love..." All of this shows her state of depression and how in despair she is.

    1. Beer? On Midsummer Eve? No thank you! I can do better than that.[He opens a drawer in the table and takes out a bottle of red wine, sealedwith yellow wax] Yellow seal, see*—the best!—Now get me a glass. Awine glass, of course, when I’m drinking pur!*

Jean sounds like someone who understands and appreciates the finer things in life. Jean is a high-valued person who chose wine over beer since Yellow wine is finer than low-quality beer.

    1. "Let's find a way to help you deal with your low-grade depression,"my therapist recently said to me."Okay ... ""What makes you happy?""I don't know.""Really? Nothing makes you happy?""Not really."

I like the way the author describes their mental state by the use of dialogues between a black playwright and their therapist. "Really? Nothing makes you happy?" "Not really." Those dialogues were very simple yet effective in showcasing how ones depression can make them feel hopeless and demotivated. The author mentioned how they're a black playwright so I'm guessing there's a meaning behind why they chose to mention it before they announced that they're depressed.

    1. Opera isto have its form modernized and its content brought up to date, but withoutits culinary character being changed. Since it is precisely for its backward-ness that the opera-going public adores opera, an influx of new types oflistener with new appetites has to be reckoned with; and so it is. The inten-tion is to democratize but not to alter democracy's character, which consistsin giving the people new rights, but no chance to appreciate them.

This reminds me of how people are brainstorming ideas to keep theatre relevant against films/movies since theatre doesn't have any technology involved whereas films/movies do.

    1. ‘Art imitates nature’ actuallymeans: ‘Art re-creates the creative principle of created things.’

This basically means how art mimics life or how art is influenced by the artist's perception of life. For example, an artist would make art that portrays how they view their lives and it also varies between artists from across the world. Art is subjective and it is perceived differently by different types of people.

    2. Should art educate, inform, organise, influence, incite to action,or should it simply be an object of pleasure?

The same can be argued/discussed on both sides. Should theatre be an escape from the harsh reality or be something that actively makes you think, question, or reflect on our lives? There's no right or wrong answer since it comes down to the preferences of people. For example, I personally will always turn to theatre to entertain or escape from the harsh reality of my life. I want to have a good laugh or be amused by theatre and wouldn't want to actively use my brain to think or reflect on matters. Someone other than me would want to turn to theatre to learn/reflect/ponder on the matters conveyed in theatre. They would want theatre to influence thoughts or actions to change/better the world. So therefore, there's no right or wrong answer, it all just comes down to the audience's preferences.

    1. After reading the play Antigone, I came to the conclusion that being too egotistical or arrogant will eventually lead to doom. It will humble whoever it is, even the King Creon. King Creon went against the Gods' orders and had to face the wrath of the Gods. He showed arrogance to Antigone who dared to go against his order and in the end of the play is left to doom by the Gods. The play ends on a rather horrible note: everyone close to King Creon died and he was left to suffer alone, only wishing for any escape (death).
