    1. "Trials have become rare legal artifacts in most U.S. jurisdictions, and even nonexistent in others," the ABA Plea Bargain Task Force wrote in a report released Wednesday.

Why are trials becoming more rare? It could possibly be undesired by the prosecutor.

    2. innocent people are coerced into guilty pleas because of the power prosecutors hold over them

This seems completely unethical to do. Is this illegal to do?:

    3. In any given year, 98% of criminal cases in the federal courts end with a plea bargain — a practice that prizes efficiency over fairness and innocence,

It sounds ridiculous that only 2% of cases don't have a plea bargain. Why do they end like this?

    1. his eyes wouldn’t meet hers, and when shespoke he didn’t seem to understand.

Does he have a possible head or brain injury? Why did no one else call for help?

    1. And still George Floyd and 51 other black men, along with 15 American Indian men, and 9 Hispanic men were killed by Minneapolis Police Department officers between Jan. 2000 and May 31, 2020.

I wonder what wrong in the department for them to let something like this to occur?

    2. The county now runs the department, and implemented de-escalation training, defined chokeholds as deadly force, and required that officers step in if a colleague is using excessive force. Officers were tasked with patrolling on foot, introducing themselves to residents, and hosting community barbecues. Violent crime dropped 42% between 2012 and 2019.

I think the positive training bring crime down by 42% is a major success.

    3. Low wages force many officers to take extra jobs, leaving them tired and unprepared to deal with a high-stress police situation.

It reminds me of how when I come from a busy or long day of work I don't want to do anything as im exhausted.

    4. “Citizens still call 911, their call is still dispatched. However, it is dispatched to our agents…. You’re going to continue to see alternative police response be divested from guys with guns over to civilians to respond to these nonviolent calls for service.”

Its interesting how call are dispatched to different people than the police department. How efficient is that?

    5. While there are multiple interpretations of “defund the police,” the basic definition is to move funding away from police departments and into community resources such as mental health experts, housing, and social workers. In the larger scope of the civil rights movement, some advocates would reallocate some police funding while keeping police departments, others would combine defunding with other police reforms such as body cameras and bias training, and others see defunding as a small step toward ultimately abolishing police departments and the prison system entirely.

I think defunding should be done in the way that puts the resources to better educate and train the police.
