What is the responsibility of Musicians in Social Justice?
Hm, I initially mistook this section be your three 3 positions.
Here are my overarching comments:
-There are roughly 6 positions included on this page, described under three categories, all responding to the different questions. Identify one question of social importance which you'll seek to explore for your research. Then, isolate sources included on this page that answer that singular question. It might be as simple as: How can push social justice efforts forward? This question is primarily rooted in the stasis points of Value/Quality. It would allow you to narrow your positions to one singular, related set of questions. It would allow you to explore ways in which music has inspired anti-social and prosocial action from masses, to envelop what you already have about music's potential to spread awareness about social justice issues, and to include what you already have about the use of music in psychotherapy. Also -- and this is equally important -- it would allow you to explore and reflect the social significance of your topic. Each of your positions should reflect the exigence of your inquiry.
The use of intricate chords and chord progressions are not the only type of music that works within social justice however. “Immortal” by J. Cole is a great example of this. J. Cole in this song uses a repeating melody with a very subtle descending bass line. Although these contribute to the mood, the most impactful part of this song is the lyrics. The lyrics of a song are not an ignorable part of the design of music within social justice. When listening to J. Cole’s song, one does not necessarily do it for the inspiring mood it offers, but rather to listen to the artist’s position on the topic they are singing about.
Hm, I'm wondering if there's a way to connect this to what you say earlier about music's potential to spread awareness about social issues.
This shows that although it is not inherently the responsibility of musicians to create music about social justice, many musicians naturally identify with the categories that represent the level of engagement within social justice.
Again, this seems like supplemental information to your research. Certain, you can use questions regarding musician's responsibility to frame your exploration of music's potential to engage politically. However, this particular question does not address one of the most important questions academic writers must address when pursuing a line of inquiry: What is the exigence of this topic? What is at risk? What is possible in the event this inquiry is engaged in more extensively?
“extending one’s interest and connections beyond music” - “sharing one’s musical skill and knowledge with others” - “cultivating personal values and qualities that benefit others” - “being interested and well informed about social issues” - “engaging in social agendas” - “acknowledging and embracing social responsibility”.
This section lists the author's claims, but it doesn't provide any evidence for them. Does the author of this text use examples to illustrate how music can or has expressed interest in social issue, acknowledged social responsibility, and shared that awareness and responsibility with others? Does she cite instances which these attributes of socially engaged music provoked action from its listeners? Again, consider exigence. Why are these potentialities important? Who is this author? What affords them the authority to weigh in on this topic? What examples does this author provide to express the significance of music's potential to achieve all of the possibilities that you've listed here?

This seems like supplemental information for your research, but it isn't yet clear why a general public audience should care about this. Consider information that describes the impact of politically engaged music on society. What is music's impact? What's its possibilities? How does it contribute to or further develop the goals of specific social justice movements? These questions make me think, specifically, about what you'd mentioned during one of our meetings about hip-hop being used to treat victims of racial violence. Perhaps you can point to that example and others like it.
Try to briefly describe, in concrete terms, music's value in social justice efforts. In our meeting, we talked a little about what your sources had indicated about music's history of mobilizing groups toward change and its function as an aid in various types of therapy. Use the information in your sources to more concretely define music's role in social justice. Consider, too, making this clearer earlier in your "about" section. Use this information to ground and narrow the focus on the urgency of music's role in politics.
