(11.11) This feels like an example where ritual is broken for the virtues of humanity and respect. The students are almost like sons to The Master, so they show a sort of filial piety onto him. Yet, they still have moral and social allegiance to their peer. I find it interesting that Confucius ideas have rules not in writing but in feeling and respect

I appreciate that within this passage he identifies that positive learning can come from any interaction with two others. In many ways, anyone we meet can be our teacher both by example and by warning. One of the biggest elements of learning is the conversations within our selves.being able to identify when teachings do not align with our morals is a powerful tool. We cannot control all the knowlege we take in from our peers. How can we strengthen our abilities to identify strengths and weaknessess with in our teachers/ peers/ people in our lives?

Confucius's saying that reviewing the old is a way to learn the new suggests that learning is a reflective process that need not occur in a traditional learning sense. Teaching relies on the ability to convey information from the past to make current in the present. Learning, moral growth, and past experiences seem very intertwined. Who is considered a teacher? How do we chose to value the different teachers in our lives?

This passage focuses on obeying and honoring one's parents. Even though it is not explicitly stated that the father's morals/ ways were perfect nor even upheld Confucian values, the importance of respect for a person's father goes beyond the banalities of daily life. I agree that parents should be respected but wonder to what extent that appreciation can exist. Is a parents duty simply to bring a child into the world; what if the father did wrong by his child? I am also wondering why a three year mourning period? I wonder how much of an innate obligation we have to our parents.

There are nu-merous environmental factors
I wonder how socioeconomic factors influence the likelihood of environmental contributions to schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is not only a genetic disease as environmental factors are correlated with the disorder. I am curious if statistics about schizophrenia account for difference in race and socioeconomic status.
