Because of our increase in globalization, artists need to be more aware of the concepts being displayed in their works since the likelihood of different cultured audiences seeing the work, has increased.

    2.

Technology now increases the interconnections between different worlds and cultures.

I feel like that's a lot to take in as a artist. If you're constantly pressured to make the most original, inspiring piece of artwork and never allowed a time to relax, what's the fun in even creating?

    1. tandards of public taste

No matter what, there's going to be an opposing side to something, Creating standards is understandable but also limiting.

    2. A full-fledged moral panic had begun.

Art can certainly get people's attention and challenge other peoples beliefs. Even though mean or offensive artwork isn't necessary, couldn't you argue that this reaction is going against the freedom of expression that art allows.

    1. The oppositions hidden/ exposed and denuded/clothed play upon the Manichean oppositions of nature/ culture and savage/civilize

This piece has such a contrast visually and in its interpretation. If art can stir up this much thought and debate, who's to say art can't make a change. Once again this shows the power of the artist and audience.

    2. above all, angered by the aesthetic objec- tification that reduced these black male bodies to abstract visual "things,

This reminds me of something I learned about in a feminism class as well as an art history, being the male gaze. Both woman and men experience objectification in art which may not be necessary but could it also be considered a style if it is so frequently repeated? Some art just isn't deep.

    1. that art does have the power to save lives

Art most certainly saves lives. If it doesn't save the lives of the audience through viewing and interpreting then it saves the life of the artist through self expression. Art hits deep. You don't necessarily need to raise money, you simply need let someone know they're not alone in any situation.

    2. art's "expressing feelings that are not easily articulated," "shar[ing] experiences and values through catharsis and metaphor," "demonstrating the indomitability of the human spirit," "consciousness raising.

That's the beauty of the arts..being able to express experiences and convey a possible message. Art communicates to all audiences and allows for larger topics to be shared and acknowledged and helps people cope with issues such as AIDS.

    1. Today, the essence of painting is being redefined not as a narrow, arid and reductive anti-illusionism, but as a rich, varied capacity to birth new images into an old world

This shows that painting will NEVER die! Medium's in art constantly evolve and change. Painting techniques are still being applied today and artists are creating new from the old, redefining painting.

    1. According to this understanding any art thatappropriates styles and imagery from otherepochs, othercultures, qualifiesas "post-modern."

I think its interesting the way we title movements are periods in art. In some cases I believe that these titles aren't necessary considering all artists take or are inspired by others. History constantly repeats itself and its nice to see details taken from past artworks that then get carried over into the present.

I love the way that's phrased. How, in art, you may see objects painted on a canvas but there's a whole other level to the piece in terms of emotion and reason as to why it was created. There's multiple interpretations in art and the ultimate truth you see in a piece may be different to you than to the artist. Being able to create a whole other reality for someone to experience is why I do what I do.

    1.

      paradigm: pattern

This goes to show that the audience in the art world is just as powerful as the artists themselves. Art is ever changing. Openness in art I think is necessary for self expression.
