the classroom should be a "safe"place; that usually translates to mean that the professor lecturesto a group of quiet students who respond only when they arecalled on.
I cannot relate to this more. It feels like most of my classes since forever have been like this. I guess if classrooms are more "neutral," they feel more inclusive, but honestly, my favorite classes are usually classes with heated discussions and contrasting inputs. They're dynamic, but not necessarily aggressive. It just feels like everyone is passionate, and they care about things

We had not realized howmuch faculty would need to unlearn racism to learn about col-onization and decolonization and to fully appreciate the neces-sity for creating a democratic liberal arts learning experience.
I like the juxtaposition between "learning" and "unlearning" here. It shows how school is not the only place where you "learn." There are a lot of perspectives and behaviors that you just "learn" "naturally" as you grow. And I agree with the text, sometimes, "unlearning" is just as important as "learning."

educators there has to be an acknowledgment thatany effort to transform institutions so that they reflect a multi-cultural standpoint must take inta consideration the t'carsteachers have when asked to shift their paradigms.
Here, the text makes me think of how personal teaching is. Even though academia is idealized as impartial and objective, teachers, as transmitters, have a huge impact on how students perceive and process information, which helps to construct perspectives, which is very personal.
