    1. We need literary criticism in African languages. And equally importantly, we have to decolonize African literary theory.  Why should literary criticism continue to draw its primary conceptual oxygen from European literary theories?

I'm really interested in the idea of de-colonial literary criticism being the outcome of this discussion. "Legitimizing" is the wrong word...but it's meaningful that this is the call to action the author of this article presents. There's something to how we respond to art and literature that makes it communal.

There is so much good stuff in here but I think my two main takeaways are asking the question "what kind of ancestor do I want to be?" this hits me as a very hopeful question- it's one that requires belief in the future and future generations. It's really pulls into focus the idea that what we are doing and working on now will impact the long game. The second thing that I'm chewing on is the way that the speakers problematized public domain.
