    1. Grades con-vey powerful ideas about our presumed intellectual abilities and these ideas influ-ence what education we will have access to

grades can sometimes be a misleading indication of a student's intellectual and academic abilities, and in my opinion, can put an immense amount of unnecessary pressure on students in certain circumstances.

    2. The key to whether these feelings play a constructive or destructive role lies in what we do with them.

we have the ability to choose how we react to the circumstances in our lives

    3. Closed questions can also be answered with an easy yes or no

this can also give students an easy out to questions they do not want to answer and gives them a way to answer without really thinking about the question from every angle

    4. When our comprehension is low and critical thinking skills underdeveloped, expressing our opinion is the easiest response.

i think this is an interesting point in that I have never really thought about it like this that when we don't understand something, it elicits an opinionated and sometimes even an emotional response

    5. support of others

often times when I haven't understood how to do something, I have checked in with my peers and that has been such a valuable resource and has been a great support

    6. Look up vocabulary words and ter-minology that are new to you

educating yourself on things before choosing a stance in a situation is so important because an argument means nothing if it cant be backed up with evidence and proof

    7. students to argue with professors prior to achieving mastery

a student arguing with a professor is not only a good way for the student to fact check and gain extra knowledge, but also is a good way for the professor to hear other perspectives and stay sharp

    8. Standardized testing and the punishment and reward sys-tem of grades are major contributors to these habits,

if there has been significant efforts to prove that standardized testing and the punishment and reward system are major contributors to bad habits, why are they still so widely and commonly used?

    9. somewhat immature, and perhaps even disrespectful.

because of how the student responded, he probably would have been seen this way because society has taught us that if we stand up for something that we believe in and are thought to be wrong, that it should be taken as weakness

    10. can make these courses challenging.

not only can this combination of things be challenging to understand, but it can also cause people who are uncomfortable in situations like these to become very defensive

    11. These perspectives include the idea that if we don’t believe in social inequality

i've never really thought of or seen social inequality as subjective or something that you "believe in" or don't this is an interesting way to put it

    12. allows us to form strongly held opinions without being particularly educated on the issues.

because we see things like these so often, it's almost like we've been trained to believe them or use them even when we have not taken the time to form our own thoughts

    13. challenge mainstream understandings

i feel like the idea of challenging what we've been taught by society to be true is something that has been coming more and more into the light especially recently as more injustice is being revealed

    14. ambiguity can lead to frustration, for our K–12 schooling (especially in Canada

children are naturally curious just by nature and i can even relate to this frustration-- wanting to know the answer to something that did not render a straight forward or black and white answer and not being given any information to figure it out because it was ambiguous was difficult

    15. overcome injustice is to be nice and treat everyone the same.

it's interesting to me that this is what society has taught us since we were little and that this is the right thing to do, however when i think about it more, to treat everyone exactly the same would be doing an injustice to everyone's characteristics, cultures, attributes etc. that make them special and unique.

    16. do matter and contribute significantly to people’s experiences and life opportunities.

being different is what makes everyone have the experiences that benefit not only themselves but also the ones others can learn from

    17. suggesting that you may not be as open-minded as you may have thought.

i think this is really interesting because to me this says there is always more to learn and you should never turn down an opportunity to better yourself

    18. reproduce inequality

this reminds me of the reading we did from freire. it takes a similar stance in the reproduction of inequality that freire did because it has the same connotation that the ones doing the teaching are the ones higher up.
