The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.
This is the Resolution because it ends the story with Rainsford killing the general and then comfortanly sleeping in his bed
-
A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there."Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?"
This is the climax of the story because this was an unexpected turning point where we hd assumed that Rainsford had escaped but really he had come back to get revenge on General Zaroff
-
The cry was pinched off short as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean Sea dosed over his head.He struggled up to the surface and tried to cry out, but the wash from the speeding yacht slapped him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth made him gag and strangle.
This is a Man vs. Nature conflict because Rainsford is struggling to stay above water after he has fallen into the ocean and the salt water engulfs him making it impossible to breathe.
-
"But no animal can reason," objected Rainsford."My dear fellow," said the general, "there is one that can.""But you can't mean--" gasped Rainsford."And why not?""I can't believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke."
This is a conflict of Man vs. Man because General Zaroff is telling Rainsford about him hunting humans instead of animals and Rainsford does not approve of this and it starts an argument between the two
-
"Tonight," said the general, "we will hunt--you and I."Rainsford shook his head. "No, general," he said. "I will not hunt."The general shrugged his shoulders and delicately ate a hothouse grape. "As you wish, my friend," he said. "The choice rests entirely with you. But may I not venture to suggest that you will find my idea of sport more diverting than Ivan's?"
This is a Man vs. Self conflict becuast Rainsford is giving the choice to either be given to Ivan to be taken care of or to go against the general in a hunting game and it is a dicision he has to make himself.
-
This is the rising action because it is something the main charater does that changes the stories pace and basically starts the plot of the whole story
-
"What island is it?" Rainsford asked
This is the exposition because it introduces Rainsford to the story and sort of explains where they are at.
