    1. Metacognition

I find this to be such an important teaching tool to not only help the teacher gain a rough idea of class progress, but also allow students to view their progress from another perspective. I find metacognition activities like asking students to hold up a number 1-5 to identify how well they think they did to be very helpful.

    2. teaching by telling

I think that this is another important point for music teachers, as this is often how rehearsals run. With the large size of some ensembles, it can be difficult to ensure total comprehension. I am glad that this passage recognizes that this can work in some cases, but is not appropriate across all students.

    3. ffects

This passage reminds me of the concept of cultural capital, which I think is important to remember as teachers. Although we must me mindful of the previous experiences of students and utilize them to help students succeed, we must remember that we cannot appropriate these experiences.

    4. understanding and transfer

I think that this is an important point to remember as music educators. Although we aim to instill a love of music in our students, not every students will become a professional musician, which means that we need to teach in a way that allows students to draw concepts from their musical lessons that they can utilize in other life contexts.

    5. ocial and cultural contexts

This is such an important component of learning that I think is often accidentally overlooked due to a simple lack of exposure. However, awareness and sensitivity to social and cultural contexts are what allow teachers to reach as many students as possible.

    6. without recourse to unobservable mental events,

I appreciate this explanation, as it begins to highlight the development of psychology as a science due to the observable events that led to a conclusion.

    7. reflect on their thought pro-cesses through introspection

Although this method make sense, I wonder how personal reflection can be defined as "precise analysis" as previously stated due to human variation. Although human emotion can be quantified in a sense, I know that working with human subjects can be difficult due to the inability to control answers.

    8. precise analysis

I know that this precise measurement is what defines the scientific nature of psychology. However, I am curious as to what sparked this change, as the previous information implies that philosophy and theology reigned supreme before this.

    1. being able to make use of that knowledge in a real-world context

Very true! While retaining information is important, the most important thing is reaching students effectively and in a meaningful way, which is impossible through memorization alone.
