    1. This way of thinking about girls and gears is supported by the hypothesis, familiar in recent writing about women, that boys are more comfortable with boundaries and girls with attachments.

Man, this sucks. This article has an interesting way of talking about the different sexes. Perhaps attachment really does cause larger issues than we give it credit for.

    2. Hard and soft are more than different approaches to computation.

This feels gendered and feminine vs masculine

    1. The most common instances I can think of are Destiel and Johnlock

      Relating to pop culture/tech media.

    2. Straight erasure doesn’t actually exist

      This is an opinion?

    1. I was once a total boy-obsessed straight girl.

It's cool that the author admits they weren't hiding anything or confused instead of pretending they were keeping a side of them from the world. They are also stating that this is O.K

    1. So when I watched the film for the second time, I did so imagining that all the stormtroopers were black.

I'm genuinely curious if the directors intended this or it's just an interpretation of viewers. It's fascinating to consider the possibility that there was a race and political motive behind the film.

    1. Traditional assignments don’t necessarily empower students when they have to post them in a public space.

When a student is given opportunities to expand their creativity they're far more likely to appreciate the assignment and be proud of what the outcome was.

    1. Specs grading is flexible.

      This seems very complicated...

    2. If your objective for an assignment is creativity, simply provide loose specs of the various ways that students can demonstrate their ability to explain and apply the material

I find that this type of project caters more towards students who are creatively inclined. For me, this is the best type of assignment because it highlights my strengths. For others it may be the opposite, but the idea that a course features options for both types of thinkers will result in happier students.

    1. doing the draft, coming to class, etc

Again, this puts the effort into the students hands. If they apply themselves and work hard they're going to feel like the grade should reflect that and it will unlike if a teacher has a bias grading system.

    2. putting control of the grade firmly in students’ hands

I think when you hand responsibility over to the student they tend to be far more honest in admitting what level of work they put into a project. It's almost as if the grading process has gone back to judging based on effort vs intelligence (which is something that works far better for some students because they learn more from mistakes than if they got it right the first time).

    1. What does it mean to “own” a digital good – a domain name or otherwise?

Digital ownership is very important in this day and age because our digital lives will become our main lives in a short period of time. Digital goods will become as good as physical goods.

    1. digital citizenship

This is something that will become more and more important in the future because our lives will become increasingly digital. To educate us from the start is to create a positive environment and smarter citizens in the future.

    2. digital portfolio

Very important for my future to have a digital portfolio because of the field I'm going into

    3. And then — contrary to what happens at most schools, where a student’s work exists only inside a learning management system and cannot be accessed once the semester is over — the domain and all its content are the student’s to take with them. It is, after all, their education, their intellectual development, their work.

This in comparison to the webpage that exists through a umwblogs site that hosts my webcomic I did last semester is great. I know that the comic I spent so much time on will disappear after I leave and that it is not hosted on a permanent domain. If I am able to create something permanent it will leave a lasting impression on how I view the institution that helped me achieve it.
