    1. you each have your own definition of what a thesis statement should and should not look like

I feel like growing up, a majority of schools teach the "if...then" thesis statement or science. Or some form in which we state what we want to base our paper on.

    2. your joke should generate a laugh, your email should elicit a response, and your updated Face-book status should generate comments from your online friends

This is a good example of filling in the blanks as stated in the next sentence, but how can it be changed to not sound this way?

    3. meant that writing in a particular genre was seen as simply a matter of filling in the blanks.

I find this an interesting take on how someone could look at genre. This makes the topic seem more bland and routine or robotic in a sense.

    1. each time the benefitsofcoming out have tobe weighed against the benefitsofconcealment, and an arrayoffactorshave to be quickly assessed in order for that decision to be made.

In our day in society, why is it still hard for things like this. I understand the pressure, I just find it hard to swallow why people still have problems with the LGBT community. Why is this still a problem?

    2. why do we stilloperatein aworld that assumes thatpeoplewho are not male are female, andpeoplewho are not female are male (and even thatpeoplewho are not male arenotpeoplel)

This is a strong message that shows the power a voice can have. It is interesting that we still live in a world where we can be judged or shunned for things like this.

    3. Allmetaphorsdo notnecessarilyserve well asparadigms, althoughmanyparadigmsare at their coremetaphors.

This is an interesting way to look at the metaphor and paradigm relationship. I never thought of it in this way.

Although a very strong point, I do admit that the phrase contact zone does have appealing aspects. And this was a well put sentence.

    1. solidarity, dignity, and power it could mean to be a Mexican farm worker in California.

Those 3 words are powerful when it comes to minorities who do not get as much respect or understanding and help solidify the importance of contact zones.

    2. It also meant the strike could draw economic, political, and moral support from Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in cities and towns throughout the state.

With these new words such as movement, strike, etc, would these new terms go under a subset of the term contact zones?

    3. It is when there are enough people with one idea so that their actions are together like the huge wave of water, which nothing can stop. It is when a group of people begins to care enough so that they are willing to make sacrifices.

I feel as though a movement, which is the spark of a revolution, is a contact zone at the most extreme. Where people express their feelings whether it be of their culture or what they believe in and this greatly affects those who participate.

    4. The systematic discrimination to which Mexicans had been subjected in the Southwest was a story not well known by the rest of the country

Is there a special term for contact zones that have not been completed however have been thought out? To elaborate, the contact zone of the Mexicans in the Southwest, however not yet a contact zone cause it is not well known?

    1. Modelsinvolvinggamesandmovesareoftenusedtodescribeinteractions.

I really liked this analogy. I am a gamer myself and I enjoyed the whole "the game is the same for all players" when it really isn't. Most games these days involve random chance and luck, and I could really connect to the analogy and it helped me understand the topic better.

Stating that autoethnographic texts are not just indigenous forms of self representation and it is more of a collaboration really makes it clear on how it can expand the meaning of the story in terms of socially and culturally.

I find it crazy whenever the writer can say that the sport of baseball can teach a child such controversial topics. I completely respect the anecdotes and connections.

    4. Hesayshelearnedtowritefromhishalfbrother,amestizowhoseSpanishfatherhadgivenhimaccesstoreligiouseducation.

What is the significance to including the fact that the half brother was a mestizo and his father was Spanish? Was this to represent the gap between cultures/languages?

    5. Autoethnographicworksareoftenaddressedtobothmetropolitanaudiencesandthespeakersowncommunity

After doing more research on the word Autoethnography, I come to the understanding that it is supposed to be research to make the story connect to a wider cultural, social, meaning / understanding. My question is how can it expand the meaning by maybe addressing to more audiences rather than the metropolitan and speaker's community?
