“That is my least concern; I am, by a course of strange events, become the most miserable of mortals. Persecuted and tortured as I am and have been, can death be any evil to me?
It’s funny that Frankenstein considers himself as the most “miserable of mortals” considering that his creation feels the same way. The overwhelming guilt of his creation and it’s actions is taking a toll on him because it is also a secret of his. I don’t think anyone knows of the monster but he does tell a nurse about it, I don’t think she believes him. Since he is going through this and feels as if all of the monsters doings are his fault, the idea of being punished for it seems ideal since he is the cause of the monsters behavior. As if he also believes that he deserve the punishments to some extent.
