It provides more entry points for policy and new tools that practitioners can draw on in their efforts to reduce poverty and increase shared prosperity. This quote really sums up this reports message and really shows what the author is trying to say. Their thoughts are clearly stated in the quote above and also relates to the inquiry question as it later explains how all of these factors relate to decision making and poverty,

    2. "However, in mixed-caste groups, revealing the boys’ castes before puzzle-solving sessions created a signifi - cant “caste gap” in achievement in which low-caste boys underperformed the high-caste boys by 23 per- cent, controlling for other individual variables (Hoff and Pandey 2006, 2014). Making caste salient to the test takers invoked identities, which in turn affected perfor- mance."

A question I have about this quote and all mental models in general is how wasy are they really to change? As unless they are convinced or persuaded otherwise will their mental models shift signifcantly from something like a soap opera?

    1. Unlike some capitalist economies that had even lower per capita incomes in 1950, East Germany’s planned economy did not catch up to the world leaders, which included West Germany.

I wonder why East Germany was not able to catch up, if it was purely by their economical system as Japan had also suffered war damage, not just Germany.

    2. The opportunity to trade—that is, the existence of an apple market and a wheat market—has benefited both Greta and Carlos. This was possible because specializing in the production of a single good increased the total amount of each good produced, from 800 to 1,000 apples and from 44 to 50 tonnes of wheat

This piece of evidence also shows how capitalism gas revolutionized the way we live. This was by capitalism allowing specialization to occur so that not everyone had to produce the same type of good, one could produce apples and one could produce wheat for them to trade so they could by the essentials for them to live. This was shown in this section of text when Greta and Carlos traded with each other in a way that benefited both of them.

    3. As we have seen, the permanent technological revolution coincided with the transition to firms as the predominant means of organizing production. This does not mean that firms necessarily caused technological change. But firms competing with each other in markets had strong incentives to adopt and develop new and more productive technologies, and to invest in capital goods that would have been beyond the reach of small-scale family enterprises.

This evidence shows that capitalism has revolutionized the way we lived. By firms competing with each other and in turn developing new technologies to try and gain the advantage over the others.

    4. Three thousand years later, in the early 1800s, the most efficient forms of lighting (using tallow candles) provided about nine times as much light for an hour of labour as had the animal fat lamps of the past.
