"Friend or Foe '98"CarterMartinDJ Premier
Is this the first true sequel song with actual callbacks to the first version?
Remember me from Friend or Foe when I told you don't ever ever come around here no more

is the right thing to do, and the data shows it benefits us in terms of innovation, team functioning, and bottom line results
The language of this pledge in and of itself is patronizing. From the beginning it talks in absolutes - "right thing to do". There's no commentary on why diversifying the tech workforce is the "right" thing to do. The only thing it expounds on is how diversity = more money. So this is really speaking to the companies as the agents, and as the beneficiaries.
One small thing to add in here would be: workplace "culture" (as it's called) is usually constructed through a white male lens...from work events, to permissible behavior on the job. This stems from the leadership being white and male. I see no mention of bringing on black and brown executives...
No mention of valuing the cultures of other communities...we are not inquiring whether these are shared values. So this is discouraging people of color from actually showing up as themselves.
unconscious workplace biases
Unconscious bias training masquerades as a remedy for workplace racism. It is in a vacuum, often with little to no follow-up. It's mandated in a lot of industries now, so this isn't even going beyond the typical workplace agenda.
Back when PDC was looking for TAP providers, based on the content I saw in the RFPs, I strongly recommended that everyone receiving money in program should engage in an anti-racism workshop. Anti-racism is different, because it's educational regarding the history and psychology of racism...and gives participants language and definitions with which to discuss racism.
Katharine said that she'd been "Wanting to do it", and that PDC "had the money". I followed up with her every 2 weeks on this for almost 6 months, and the end result was that "the group is not comfortable with one another yet".
There was a lot of defensiveness on their part during these conversations.
create a needed pool of talent for our industry
Again, self-serving and obtuse.
First, we know there's talent in Portland and everywhere - the institutions either don't hire them, or the environment is aggressive toward people of color.
Steering Committee
All but one on this committee are white-presenting. No Black-presenting women.
By "diversity", they clearly mean "white women is enough", and don't see the difference in perspective between a white woman and black or latina woman.
Managing Organizations
I have little confidence in PDC. I don't know if you remember there was a twitter spat a few months ago about Portland tech...that guy Chris chimed in...I was terse with him because he was in the room for the first committee I was involved with, and made a lot of effort in steering us away from uncomfortable topics. So I wasn't interested in hearing his commentary about Black owned business related topics.
Portland Tech Companies
What does it actually take to be listed on the website? Some of these companies are...defunct.
In 2016, Prosper Portland and TechTown partnered with Design + Culture Lab and Scale Up Partners to evaluate the Diversity Pledge to better address the needs of the Diversity Pledge community with a second year of supportive programming.
My experiences with Prosper have led me to believe that they proceeded with the programming they originally wanted, despite anything contradictory that was presented from D+L or Scale Up.

Should be "her" in reference to Lovely Warren.
In light of the fact that white women are forbidden from expressing desire for black men, there is perhaps little surprise that this desire morphs into an apparent appetite for violence.
Actually talking about white women...
