    1. supporters of the Gay International’s missionary tasks haveproduced two kinds of literature on the Muslim world: an academic literature ofhistorical, literary, and anthropological accounts, written mostly by white maleEuropean or American gay scholars, which purport to describe and explain“homosexuality” in the past and present of the Arab and Muslim worlds; andjournalistic accounts of the lives of so-called gays and (much less so) lesbians inthe contemporary Arab and Muslim worlds.3

This passage stood out to me because it shows Massad's central idea. It shows that he is not part of the LGTBQ+ community and that anyone who is part of this community should not be a part of the Arab culture. It shows how the Arab culture in the western countries is very different than from the United States where everyone is felt included. It shows that in the United States is very different than Western countries by the United States being a mix of countries and western countries being predomintely Arab.

    1. Diuril with hypertension,Ori-nasewith diabetes, Mevacor with high cholesterol. The drugs would be taken not to cure the condition but to reduce the risk factorand potential future events, such as heart disease or heart attacks

This quote stood out to me because more and more medications are given out to patients that do not need this prescription. More and more medications are being out to patients without precautions. Providers need to give patients medications only if needed. Medications need to be given with precaution. I believe that medications need to be given with care. Providers need to be calling and reaching out to their patients. I do not believe that providers are doing this as much as they should. We have an example with this medication Burial that is given to patients with hypertension. This medication is given to people with hypertension, but the side risk for this medication is heart disease, and heart attacks.

    1. "if a baby wants to die, it will die." There was no sense in frustrating him so, for here was a child who was completely "lifeless," without any "fight" .at all. His eyes were already sinking to the back of his head, a sign that he had already begun his journey into the next life. It was very wrong, the creche mothers warned, to fight with death

This passage stood out to me because, it makes me want to keep reading what will happen next in the reading. I believe the author added this passage to attract the readers to keep reading and attract their attention. "If a baby wants to die, it will die". Means that if the baby is not taken care of it might not survive. Back in the 1900's mothers clearly did not take care about their children as much as they should. The theme of this story is how mothers that were in extreme poverty had children that they could not take care of and would end up dying, since there was not any other choice. The theme from this story from only from the pages assigned is that poverty, inequality, can change the way people view life.

    1. Linguistic anthropologists Edward Sapir and Benjamin Whorf, for instance, examined interrelation-ships between culture, language, and cognition. They argued that the language one speaks plays a criti-cal role in determining how one thinks, particularly in terms of understanding time, space, and matter. They proposed that people who speak different languages view the world differently as a result.

This quote stood out to me because it is saying that Edward Sapir and Benjamin Whorf the language you speak affects how you think and see the world. The way a language talks about time, space can shape how to understand these ideas. People who speak differently might think about the experience the worlds in different ways because of how their language works. It is how language influences thoughts and perspectives

    2. The main problem with Frazer’s conclusion can be traced back to the fact that he did not do any research himself and none of the information he relied on was collected by an anthropologist. He never spent time with the people he was researching.

This passage stood out to me because it shows he did not do any research himself. He never spent time with the people he was researching. Also, none of the information he relied on was collected by anthropologist. This quote is saying that Frazer conclusion was not reliable because he did not get the full picture. He did not actually study the people himself. He used information from people who were not experts. Also he never even met or spent time with the cultures he was writing about.
