    1. As a game unfolds through play, metaplay, and transformative play,unexpected things happen, patterns that are impossible to completely pre-dict.

      In most first person shooter games, the AI is very predictable and if you pay attention, you can use a specific set of moves or actions to defeat them. However, against a human opponent/groups, players adapt to techniques or strategies. As a result, their opponents either emulate or innovate to defeat them. So the play transforms and changes.

      For some reason Minecraft is making a comeback and I have high school kids creating their own worlds during our enrichment period and run around like little kids having a great time in manner that might be frowned upon for being immature. However, they really enjoy their time, do something creative and make better bonds with everyone in the class they might not otherwise do.

      I knew my time spent on my NES and PS4 would pay off dividends! If you look at the first "open world" game, Zelda everything resets once you get far enough away or after a certain amount of time passes. In comparison to modern open world games such as Skyrim, the game tracks your decisions and your interactions and you develop a "reputation" that either helps or hinders your options through the game.

      And what do they need to have? Probably different than a student 50 or 60 years ago versus today. Is this where we go to a baseline of skills and then allow them to certify in skills afterward in a manner of their own choosing? Does this shift meet the needs of our society or economy?

      This has been one of my major complaints with advocating innovating practices when they aren't conducted in a public education classroom. I think the general public wants to see that this works across all types of students rather than those who have the means to go to specialty, school of choice or private school.

      On the understanding that Literacy applies only to speech and print communication, I did like the idea that students at least need a "basic" fluency in the printed language but I am not sure exactly what that means.

      Students will probably really enjoy this for a subjects like English of Social Studies where they can lampoon historical figures or characters.

      I haven't gotten into podcasts let alone make one, so this is going to be some exploratory learning going on here.

Second, weengaged in qualitative analysis of five diverse schools in different regionsof the country.

      This was my only real issue with the study. It wasn't random. If you drill down on more diverse schools, you aren't getting an accurate picture of the country. It was have been more impactful if you could compare diverse schools to homogenous schools and those who are poor or more affluent.

    2. I was honestly very please that almost all the posts I read were about social issues, environmental issues or some other social redeemable cause. In comparison, I do not think that I had that kind of awareness in high school...let alone middle school.
