    1. ‘Summer Camp Island’

I loved this show so much and am still so disappointed in the way it was handled by HBO Max and now there is no way for us to officially watch it.

    2. That fatigue was part of what drove “Adventure Time” artists to create their own projects, though many of the relationships formed there endure. Mr. Ward helped write and storyboard an episode of “Over the Garden Wall,” which he described as a pleasant reversal of the dynamic on “Adventure Time.”

Although Adventure Time was a taxing project Ward didn't discourage the animators to leave to make their own content and even helped make those shows. It says a lot about Ward to be able to keep his show so cohesive while having his staff change over the years.

    3. Patrick McHale, ‘Over the Garden Wall’

Over the Garden Wall was a mini series that was only 10 episodes long and gave off the vibe of a Studio Ghibli movie but Westernized.

    4. “The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack”

This is where we start to unravel the web that is Cartoon Network animators who have worked on the same shows. This Network has had such a hand in the furthering of animation because it allowed animators to take more risks with their work and once you were on one show and are more likely to work on another. This was because Cartoon Network only aired animated shows and was relatively new so it couldn't rely on sequels or remakes like Disney could. Cartoon Network had to make something new

    5. Lauded for its exploration of L.G.B.T. themes and complex emotions, “Steven Universe” will wrap its fifth season later this year with a movie to follow on Cartoon Network in 2019.

Again Sugar was able to use Adventure Time as a reference and make her own show. As of today that show has finished it's original 5 season run, aired a movie, and finished the series with Steven Universe Future where we get to see the characters 5 years after the movie and see the Steven relax after all the fighting in the series original run is over and finally deal with all the trauma he repressed his whole life.

    6. Ms. Sugar likened her work on “Adventure Time” to making independent films, with the commercial structure of a television series acting as a Trojan Horse for material about loneliness, anxiety and occasionally bacon pancakes. This buffer, Ms. Sugar said, gave her the opportunity to begin making animation that felt truly personal.

What Sugar herself has said about working on Adventure Time

    7. In part, this was because “Adventure Time” accommodated and cultivated the different artistic sensibilities of each person who worked on the show. “It’s a plant, and it just kind of grows in different directions,”

This is a great description of why the animators were able to go on and make their own unique shows now having experience from working on Adventure Time where they were able to add to what Ward had made. It wasn't a show made by one guy there was a collection of people with different ideas. I doubt Ward would have been able to make the songs that Rebecca Sugar added. And from that she was able to then able to pitch her show "Steven Universe" to Cartoon Network wich became it's own classic with even more of her songs.

    1. series is that Finn grew up and they

Before Adventure Time it was common plcae for cartoons to stay stagnant during a series run where no matter how many season it has the characters stay the same age and where the same clothes. Finn does wear the same outfit but he grows and develops as a person just like in live actions shows and so does all the other characters

    2. most of all theories because this huge

This was a huge part the show was arguably the same level as how people treated Marvel comics where it was automatically more than a kids show.

    3. working on flapjack

A key point for why Adventure Time was such a turning point was the build up. We had all these talented animators going to college together then we have them working on the same shows that were very experimental. So when Ward made Adventure Time and took his colleagues and college friends with him to work on this show it gave wind to all the other projects they went on to make like "Gravity Falls" on Disney and "Regular Show" on Cartoon Network. Having such a successful show under their belt made it a lot easier for them to get their foot in the door for their pilots.

    4. the first viral cartoons to go on to be

Frederator had already been established but Ward taking his show to the internet back when YouTube was still pretty new was revolutionary. This is now a popular tactic that people use where they take the initiative to but their own art online and test public perception of it. If it does well online then that gives the creators something to show producers that they won't be wasting their money.

    5. concept of kid shows that work just for

This was definitely a thing that this show started. Cartoon Network did have kid shows that you can watch and enjoy as an adult like "Misadventures of FlapJack", "Chowder" and "Courage the Cowardly Dog" but none of those shows had as much publicity or a cult following like Adventure Time does

    6. The impact of Adventure time & the connections between creators starting on this show. Frederator is also included which their impact gets underestimated and they are not included often.

    1. Martin damages the Guardian and is thrown into the sea while the massive wave from the Guardians collapse sends Finn's raft deep into the ocean

Fin's backstory with his dad is the best abandonment plot line I have ever seen where Fin is dealing with the fact that even though he was adopted by an amazing family he still wondered about his birth family. After fantasizing about this moment he is disappointed by what his father has become and he is a scam artist who has no emotional attachment to him and screws him over serval times. Bofore this I had never seen any animated show tackle the abandonment and acceptance that comes with being adopted. They even show how although Fin's adopted parents (who is Jake's birth parents) were good parents they did treat him differently since not only was he not blood he was also an entirely different species.

    2. They become the first candy citizens and Bonnie declares herself the princess god, that is very messed up

This is a very dark back story to Princess Bubblegum (PB) which does not come off as being so dark for kids but when dissected more it is a great intro to government and how complicated people can be. We are introduced to PB through the eyes of a 13 year old Fin but he grows up and learns more about her we get to see how she is a dictator while being a nice person at the same time.

    3. Evergreen gun through thereby turns the crown into an artifact that gives the wearer ice powers at the cost of their own identity

This is early in the timeline but later in the show. This is an example of the deep concepts that is shown in the show. Even after the crown is returned to it's original state Gunther knowing that he will go crazy while wearing it he still sacrifice his wish to become the person he admires, Ice King.

    4. This is something that I think references the book IT by Steven King where he describes cosmic entities like the turtle and spider in the book. In the case of Adventure Time it's Orgalorg.

    1. In less than a minute, the episode creates an extraordinary evocation of intimacy between a parent and child.

Music is a big part of Adventure Time and one of the animators (Rebecca Sugar) on the show who also wrote a lot of the songs including "everything stays" took this with her in making her show "Steven Universe".

    2. Adventure Time never hesitated to slow down for a scene or two, or even a whole episode.

They didn't do it first but they did master the technique of a filler episode where in between these deeper episodes that took longer to story baord and animate they would put out these slice of life episodes where we got those backstories into background characters that would satisfy the audience while we are anticipating these large archs like the "Ketchup" episode where Marceline recaps what happened in the "elements" mini series before we get into the Bubble Gum War.

    3. it worked hard to incorporate them into its complicated backstory and world, maintaining dense continuity through multiple long-running story arcs

There are so many times they did this with characters that when watching the show in the beginning you would not expect them to have such detailed backstories later on or be so impactful. Like LSP literally saving the world but "not caring". Tree Trunks starting out as just being a sweet old lady in the woods that makes a mean apple pie turning out to be a mysterious lady who comes into men's lives and is their dream women who up and leaves in the middle of the night out of nowhere was such a big shock.

    4. world-building from a niche interest into what is now practically an industry standard, not just for animated series aimed at kids but for adult-oriented ones as well. Shows like BoJack Horseman and Rick and Morty demonstrate a common willingness to indulge the strange, an instinct that Adventure Time arguably introduced to the mainstream.

RIGHT. This show take time to for world building and even has the background characters a story arch later. Like with Cinnabun evolving and gain self-awareness and in BoJack they do the same thing with Tod who is a side character that gains motivation and discovers that he is Asexual. And in Rick and Morty there is that corn character who is in the background but then eventually he gets a family.

    5. When considering the recent “Golden Age” of TV, few would rank it alongside the likes of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, or Game of Thrones.

This shows that this show was more than your run of the mill kid show. It had arguably just as much depth was these live action shows.

    1. El Norte has a dominant Hispanic culture.

You'd think that El Norte would spread more north and east but in another map that laid out what languages were spoken the most at home in the US outside of English & Spanish the top language in Texas and the surrounding states was actually Vietnamese.

    2. US really has 11 separate 'nations' with entirely different cultures

This can be used for polysc and how MacDougal believes in "cultural determinism".
