    1. But in order to justify my friend, he confessed that this expedient was put into his head by the famous Psalmanazar, a native of the island Formosa,

Logos. He tells about how Psalmanazar thought and what he did.

    2. I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout

People eating these children is disgusting and I cannot believe they ever reached this point to think it was okay.

    3. I am assured by our merchants, that a boy or a girl before twelve years old is no salable commodity

salable-subject to or suitable for sale; readily sold commodity-something of use, advantage, or value The fact that children were sold at any age is such a terrible thing to imagine.

    4. The number of souls in this kingdom being usually reckoned one million and a half, of these I calculate there may be about two hundred thousand couple whose wives are breeders; from which number I subtract thirty thousand couples who are able to maintain their own children, although I apprehend there cannot be so many, under the present distresses of the kingdom; but this being granted, there will remain an hundred and seventy thousand breeders. I again subtract fifty thousand for those women who miscarry, or whose children die by accident or disease within the year. There only remains one hundred and twenty thousand children of poor parents annually born

This could fall under both pathos and logos. So many women could be "breeders" and out of all of them such a big amount won't be able to do so due to many reasons. Everyone should be able to have their own children if they want to and it is sad that some people don't really have a choice or that chance gets taken away from them.

    1. When wealthy people give away money, we can always say that they are doing it to ease their consciences or generate favorable publicity.

It's sad that some people think this way. Just because they have money and do something generous doesn't have to mean anything more than them having a good heart. And then there is also those people that criticize the ones that have so much money and don't do anything.

    2. philanthropy.

noun, plural philanthropies. 1.altruistic concern for human welfare and advancement, usually manifested by donations of money, property, or work to needy persons, by endowment of institutions of learning and hospitals, and by generosity to other socially useful purposes.

    3. That shocked him because he assumed that, if there are vaccines and treatments that could save lives, governments would be doing everything possible to get them to the people who need them.

It's so crazy that this is true. I never understood why things can't be given or shared with all around the world to save these people. We are all human.
