By assigning web content such as news articles on current events, social annotation can connect what's happening in the classroom to the outside world by having students apply their knowledge to authentic situations to address real-world issues or "solve real world problems" in collaboration with their peers.

Expand interdisciplinary teaching through a “Seeds of Change” initiative, which will support periods of collaborative study and course preparation among groups of two or more faculty from different departments.
One way to plant "seeds of change" would be to have instructors co-create assignments that students from different disciplines could socially annotate, and then host a joint discussion about how the how these different perspectives converge or diverge.
It can feel overwhelming, and our tendencies as faculty might be to hope it dies down and does not impact our classes in any lasting way.
