I agree with this statement, lots of old television feels familiar to its audience. For example when I was younger, I loved watching "That So Raven" because it was like a watching a teen age girl just live her life. Whereas, with newer television, the plots are more intricate and in some senses harder to follow so there's no much comfort when watching them but never ending suspense. At times, that's appreciated but other times, a viewer wishes to relax.
