That terminal carbon atom (shown here in blue) is called the omega carbon atom. Thus a monounsaturated fatty acid with its single double bond after carbon #3 (counting from and including the omega carbon)
why this blue carbon is called omega and the 3rd carbon position is also called omega ? it seems to me more reasonable that the blue carbon is called alpha, then the 3rd carbon is the omega on thus made its bond an omega one.
