There is a fair bit of subtly happening here with the signs - jumping from 3.79 summing the currents to 3.80 flipping the sign of the reflected current in the substitution.
My reasoning is that the charge is travelling from the negative to positive "terminals", so the negation is justified, but that doesn't feel very rigorous considering the importance of the sign in the following derivations.
