    1. It’s a sad truth, but girls are often assaulted, raped and even kidnapped on their way to school. So before a girl could learn math or history, she needed to feel safe, she needed to be rested and be well-nourished.

Like I said before, this is disgusting. I actually can't fathom this. These little girls being sexually assaulted before going to school. And genital mutilation is one of the most inhumane things I've ever heard happen to any woman. And that the fact that this is normalized in certain places like Kenya. I wish I could hug them and say sorry that any of that has happened to them. It's almost as if we're only here to please men or do whatever they want to do.

    2. Girls were still going through FGM, still leaving school, still getting married to men older than their fathers and still having children when they’re teenagers.

It's literally heartbreaking to hear the things some girls are being out through. Especially this. This is absolutely disgusting. As a young woman, I just get scared from being outside alone even during the day. This rips women of their human rights, of their dignity. And these aren't even women, these are CHILDREN. And getting forced into marriage with men twice their age... I can't even begin to imagine the feeling of hopelessness and sadness these girls are going through.

    3. To empower girls, you need to educate them. That was my dream. And so I built a school, and in the process, I learned something much bigger. When you empower a girl, you transform a community. School is just a start.

I completely agree with this with my whole heart. There are so many things that young girls or even teen girls should know about themselves and what women in general go through. School is such a big influence on our knowledge when growing up and one of the only outlets of learning that we can have. Whatever we learned in school from back then to now is what we know. So to empower women and young girls, this school is so important. We are so much more than what society makes us out to be.

    1. All being discarded, perfectly edible, because they’re the wrong shape or size.

This is actual insanity. Who cares?! This waste is so unnecessary for our planet. No matter the shape or size, it's going to the place. It's eventually going to be eaten regardless. Not everything in this world has to look "perfect". Not every banana is going to look the same. What's the point of harvesting and picking the food but throwing it away because "it doesn't look right". That's absolutely crazy. It's the fact that they don't even donate it or give them to less fortunate people, they just throw it away.

    2.  There will always be waste. I’m not that unrealistic that I think we can live in a waste-free world. But that black line shows what a food supply should be in a country if they allow for a good, stable, secure, nutritional diet for every person in that country.

I completely agree with this. It's so normalized to have fast food everyday, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That can be caused by laziness, no knowledge of how to cook, whatever the case may be. But as humans, we should realize what we put into our bodies, especially for a necessity like food. Home-cooked meals are 10x better than fast food in many aspects. It's so much healthier. It can taste so much better. You can cook food to last several days. And you know exactly what you're putting into your body. Yes, of course there are people who can't cook out there but what else is life about? We learn something new everyday. Cooking is no different. And as time passes, you might even learn to love cooking. Cooking at home benefits not just you, but also the community.

    3. the injustice of food waste, and the provision of the solution to food waste, which is simply to sit down and eat food, rather than throwing it away.

The amount of food wasted in the world is a huge issue that I feel like isn't getting enough attention. Ever since I was young, I was taught to eat everything off my plate or at least save it for later if I was full. Food waste is very minimal in my family and I believe that's how it should be. I've seen so many people throw away half eaten plates of food or drinks that weren't even close to being finished. Something that can be saved to be consumed later should be saved. Another cause of food waste is the food spoiling. Of course this is something we can't control. All food will spoil after a certain amount of time. Something that we can do to avoid so much food from spoiling so often is buying enough for you to eat at a time. I live with 5 other people, so when I go grocery shopping we do buy more than average but it's because we go through it quickly. But there really isn't a need to stock up food all the time. There are times that we will need to stock up like earlier last year when COVID hit hard and we needed to quarantine ourselves. There's also the problem of not eating things that live in your fridge. Sometimes we forget that we have certain food items in the back of our fridges, and I'm guilty of this. It's a bad habit. Especially if your fridge has a bunch of things in it, it's hard to remember what you have and what you don't. Regardless, we can do better. Food waste doesn't stop with one family.

    1. What do we have to get to achieve the Global Goals?

To achieve these goals, every person has to contribute. Cut back on greenhouse gases and waste. RECYCLE. Stop littering. Littering causes so many issues, not just for the people, but also for the animals we share this planet with. We continuously take away animals' homes for our own benefit. I feel like there's an even deeper objective than to just stop climate change and end world hunger. I believe this because let's say we slow down climate change and world hunger is at its all time low, there's still so many issues to solve. Not just as the citizens of the Earth but in our own communities. We still need to overcome racism and equality for all in general.

    2. three fundamental questions

These questions make me reflect on my life and what I take for granted because this is my normal. Our normal is doing relatively the same thing everyday then coming home to a nice, hot shower, a delicious dinner, and a bed that feels like heaven. But we never really think of those who are actually suffering, working day in and day out to provide for their families. The families who don't have much food on their plates. Or the discrimination others go through. Women in some countries are forced to cover up every single part of their bodies. From the outside looking inside, I can't believe the way women are treated over something they had no control over.

    3. Do you think the world is going to be a better place next year? In the next decade? Can we end hunger, achieve gender equality, halt climate change, all in the next 15 years?

I definitely don't believe we will overcome any of these problems. At least not in 15 years. We've been fighting for gender equality for quite some time now and although it's gotten better, it doesn't look like it's going to go away. We're still fighting for equality in general. As for climate change, I think it's going to get worse in the next 15 years. Our world revolves around greenhouse gases which has caused major wildfires in California and Australia. Earth is not like our bodies that can heal itself after being hurt. Whatever impact we've made on Earth has made its mark and the only way we can make any of it even a little bit better is to stop polluting our air, our water, our planet. Climate change isn't something that can disappear but we can do better to slow it down. Lastly, ending world hunger. I wish everyone on this planet could have at least 3 meals a day and fresh water to drink everyday, but out of over 7 billion people, there's always going to be someone who doesn't have those things.

    1. Take responsibility for the effects of your words and actions on others, even when your intentions were not to cause them harm

I think this line should be plastered on every magazine cover. This is such an important thing to learn as a person. Saying things out of spite or out of your own anger does not justify you saying those things. If you hurt someone emotionally or mentally, even if that wasn't your intent, responsibility needs to be taken. Many people have a bad habit of saying things they don't mean when they're angry, and I'm guilty of that too. But learning how to not say those things to satisfy yourself in that moment saves you and that person from unneeded tension.

    2. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity.

Moments like these really emphasize on where your compassion lies as a person and your character. Saying things out of your own selfish reasons adds fuel to the fire. Although there won't be a real consequence or punishment, "to act or speak violently out of spite", it really says a lot about who you are. Compassion can be shown and felt to anyone, even your own enemy. I believe showing compassion to someone like your enemy is the best kind of compassion. It reflects on, not only, the sympathy that lies in your heart, but also, what lies in theirs.

    3. The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical, and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the center of our world and put another there, and to honor the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity, and respect.

Compassion is something that is taught and learned as human beings. It's hard to believe that some people out there don't even hold the simple respect of compassion for others. It's even harder to believe when these people don't treat others well or even as human beings because of things such as race, ethnicity, gender etc. I agree wholeheartedly with this first paragraph. The way this is worded is absolutely perfect. Compassion allows us to feel and sympathize for others even if we've never gone through the same thing. Where it says "treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity, and respect" is something that I will live by for the rest of my life. There's so much wrong in the world so why should some people feel the need to make it terrible?
