    1. history of rape of Black women by white men

This reminds me of Dorothy Robert's book Killing The Black Body. I think it is incredibly interesting and painful to look at the ways in which Black women's reproduction and bodies have been used as a tool of control and repression. I hope that in this course we will explore this further.

    2. Black women who do not define themselves as feminists

What do we make of Black women who do not consider themselves feminists? I've always found this to be an interesting question. Of course on the surface level we can point to internalized misogyny and racism but it seems more complicated than that to me. This piece touches on the ways in which the feminist movement is not inclusive to various groups of people (eg POC, poor people, disabled people, etc). I think of this piece as an invitation perhaps to Black women into a feminist/womanist space in which they are the focus. I wonder if this piece would change the minds of Black women who do not currently consider themselves to be feminists.
