    1. Mr. Huppenthal called the idea that he bore animus toward Mexican-Americans “ridiculous,” noting that he grew up in a predominantly Mexican-American area of Tucson.

      I expected him to want schools teaching about different cultures. Instead, he called learning about others' backgrounds ridiculous when so many other believe the opposite.

      They cut out a lot more that what I expected them to. I was expecting to see a handful of changes throughout the bill, but was surprised when there were whole paragraphs being cut out.

      This makes me wonder what the very first contract looked like and what they changed before moving on to the next stage.

      It really stood out to me that the legislation was read a second time twice within 4 days before it was ordered to the third reading.

    1. develop an Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee

      It is interesting to me that they had to develop this Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee. Do they not already have people of color on the board already making sure that students of color have representation?

    2. This is the first of its kind in the nation

      This is so crazy to me because I feel like Ethnic studies should be taught just as much as American History, and possibly even more.
