I think it is remarkable to consider the length to which the university has grown since this point. In the present, students travel from all over the world to attend UVA. I wonder if Thomas Jefferson imagined that one day, the university student would come from some place beyond Virginia.

Overall, I think this Democratic Writing Project has been a somewhat useful experience. I like that many people can annotate the document at the same time, but it also became overwhelming with so many people looking at the same thing. I think it helped a lot that for the second part, we were given smaller group to annotate, but at the same time, I feel like I might be missing something or that groups might get repetitive. In one of my engagements this semester, we had to write a short paper as a group, which I found to be a great learning experience, so maybe next year, students could do that instead in order to learn about group writing.

I think that it's interesting that they started off with a fixed number of professors in certain disciplines. I wonder a lot if Jefferson ever thought about the extent that this university could grow and what he would think about its expansion. Could he have imagined that this school would still be thriving today as a premiere public university?

Footnote number 4 says that Jefferson underlined this part of the text in the original version. Underlining is something that Jefferson does in other documents as well, so I thought it was interesting that he chose to put emphasis on these languages in particular. Jefferson himself knew French, German, Italian, and Greek, so I wonder why he chose those languages.
