    1. For the purposes of this Code, “technology-assisted social work services” include any social work services that involve the use of computers, mobile or landline telephones, tablets, video technology, or other electronic or digital technologies; this includes the use of various electronic or digital platforms, such as the Internet, online social media, chat rooms, text messaging, e-mail and emerging digital applications. Technology-assisted social work services encompass all aspects of social work practice, including psychotherapy; individual, family, or group counseling; community organization; administration; advocacy; mediation; education; supervision; research; evaluation; and other social work services.

Adopting this practice for the use of technology assisted social work can help aid in multiple ways of helping people. Some people who may need help are not always in driving distance or during the day could be a bad time but having the option of using video technology could be a helpful resource for people. I would adopt very select technology assisted practices due to confidentiality issues that could barrier this. I would only use zoom or give a work phone number for clients to call if need be. Anything more like social media platforms can be tricky to navigate without conflict of interests. Now that I am practicing as a social worker, I would use social media to promote the facility in which I am working at and show people that there is help out there. No personal information would be exposed in this process.

    2. Professional self-care is paramount for competent and ethical social work practice. Professional demands, challenging workplace climates, and exposure to trauma warrant that social workers maintain personal and professional health, safety, and integrity. Social work organizations, agencies, and educational institutions are encouraged to promote organizational policies, practices, and materials to support social workers’ self-care.

Having self-care in your routine as a social worker is very difficult due to the demanding work they do. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and working on yourself seems to be a bit difficult when we are such selfless people (which is why we want to be social workers) but where is the work-life balance in all of this? Waking up super early to workout means less sleep but not working out means not healthy so where does self-care fall for social workers? How do we not take home the issues from work and let it keep us up at night?

    3. The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.

As an intern at a rehab facility for drug and alcohol, this sentence stood out to me due to the fact that these therapists and social workers are working all day to help people who are vulnerable in their addiction and trying to help them create a better life for themselves. Hearing about someone who was homeless on the streets and had nowhere to go due to being in and out of rehabs consistently made me realize the true value of social workers and how they impact peoples lives for the better. Helping people who seem to be at the lowest points of their life is really hard but seeing them grow into amazing sober people makes it all worth it. These addicts do not have lots of money due to spending it on drugs/alcohol so being able to help them is a pleasure of mine.
